Role Description
The Infrastructure Engineering group (IE) is responsible for innovation in infrastructure and automation for our partner’s Engineering division. Their size, culture, and the support they receive from every area in the company allows them unusual latitude and agility. They’re using that agility to build world class, multiprovider cloud infrastructures, based on the best technologies available. We are looking for a highly technical Senior Engineering Manager to build, lead, and grow our Cloud Infrastructure team in India. As the primary leader on the ground in India, you will operate with significant autonomy, reporting to US-based leadership. You must possess strong technical depth and the leadership experience necessary to mentor and scale a high-performing engineering organization. You will be responsible for our general cloud infrastructure, the underlying systems that power our global search capabilities (Solr, HBase, Redis), and our emerging AI-driven platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Develop and manage a high-performing team of infrastructure engineers.
- Independent Operations: Act as the strategic lead for the India-based infrastructure pillar.
- Technical Oversight: Conduct deep-dive architectural reviews and code reviews across the stack (Terraform, Kubernetes, Python/Go). You aren't afraid to "get into the weeds" to help the team debug complex distributed system failures or performance bottlenecks.
- Search & Data Strategy: Oversee the stability and evolution of our Search Stack (Solr, HBase, Redis) and cloud infrastructure.
- AI & Automation Champion: Drive the adoption of LLMs and AI-assisted engineering within your team to maximize productivity and automate complex operational playbooks.
- Cloud Excellence: Ensure the team maintains best practices in multi-cloud (AWS/GCP) architecture, prioritizing security, cost-efficiency (FinOps), and high availability.
- Cross-Continental Collaboration: Maintain seamless communication with US-based stakeholders, ensuring the India team is aligned with global business goals while advocating for the team's local needs.
Qualifications- Experience: 10+ years in Infrastructure, DevOps, or Software Engineering, with at least 3–5 years in a formal people management role.
- Technical Pedigree: Proven experience managing complex, distributed systems at scale with a strong background in Kubernetes, Terraform, and at least one major cloud provider (AWS/GCP).
- Search Stack Familiarity: Familiarity with the search stack, including a solid understanding of the architectural patterns of Solr, HBase, or similar distributed data systems.
- Technical Leadership: Demonstrated ability to provide strong technical leadership and guidance to a high-performing engineering team.
- Coding & Automation: Proficiency in Python or Go. You believe that "everything is code" and have experience using AI tools (GitHub Copilot, etc.) to enhance engineering workflows.
- Independence: A track record of working as a "site lead" or in a decentralized management structure with responsibility for local decision-making and team growth.
- Communication: Exceptional English communication skills, with a proven ability to bridge the gap between technical execution and executive-level strategy across timezones.
