Staff Engineer (Power BI):
We are seeking a Staff Power BI Engineer to join our Analytics and BICOE team. This is a hands-on technical role responsible for the architecture, administration, and strategic enablement of the Power BI and ThoughtSpot platforms across the organization.
The ideal candidate will drive platform administration, scalability, governance, report development, and adoption, while partnering closely with engineering, data, and business teams to enable data-driven decision-making at scale.
This role owns the end-to-end analytics experience, with a strong emphasis on Power BI platform administration, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), GCP BigQuery (BQ), cloud-native architecture, and high-performance SQL, enabling scalable, governed, and reliable analytics across Albertsons.
Please note: This is primarily a Power BI administrator role, with Power BI development and ThoughtSpot administration, development skills considered a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
- 5–8 years of experience in data analytics, with expert-level skills in Power BI administration and Power BI Report development.
- Own the end-to-end administration, governance, and operations of the Power BI platform, ensuring scalability, security, reliability, and performance.
- Administer and manage Power BI tenant settings, licensing models, workspaces, and Premium capacities.
- Monitor and troubleshoot Power BI Premium capacity utilization and performance using the Premium Capacity Metrics app and related tools.
- Design, install, configure, and manage Power BI Gateways and enterprise data connections.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Power BI ecosystem issues, including report access failures, dataset and dataflow refresh issues, gateway connectivity problems, and service disruptions.
- Develop Power BI reports and semantic models based on business requirements.
- Debug and optimize Power BI report and semantic model performance using Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, and other third-party tools; provide recommendations to report developers.
- Automate platform administration, monitoring, and governance using PowerShell or Python and Power BI REST APIs.
- Configure and manage Power BI Copilot tenant settings, feature flags, and capacity prerequisites; establish enterprise guardrails and best practices for Copilot usage including dataset readiness, semantic model quality, and user enablement.
- Monitor Power BI Copilot adoption, usage patterns, and platform impact, and provide actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Enforce security and governance standards, including workspace controls and role-based access at scale.
- Partner with engineering, data, and business teams to drive Power BI adoption and best practices.
- Administer and manage ThoughtSpot SaaS environments, including tenant configurations and feature enablement.
- Monitor ThoughtSpot platform health, usage analytics, and overall system performance.
- Configure and manage ThoughtSpot users, groups, and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Use ThoughtSpot Modeling Language (TML) to support content migration and promotion across non-production and production environments.
- Coordinate with ThoughtSpot vendors and Albertsons change management teams to plan and execute platform upgrades.
- Troubleshoot ThoughtSpot platform issues and work with ThoughtSpot support as needed.
- 5–8(7- 8Years) years of experience administering and supporting the Power BI ecosystem in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including a solid understanding of Fabric concepts and capabilities, is a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience automating platform administration, monitoring, and governance using Power BI REST APIs and PowerShell or Python scripts is a strong plus.
- Expert-level, hands-on experience with Power BI report development, paginated reports, and semantic (tabular) model development.
- Deep expertise in Power BI platform architecture, including licensing models, Premium capacities, gateways, and tenant administration.
- Proven expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex Power BI performance and reliability issues.
- Strong experience managing enterprise BI security models and access controls.
- 5–8 years of experience in data analytics with expert-level skills in ThoughtSpot development.
- Deep expertise in ThoughtSpot architecture and administration, including tenant configuration, feature rollout, and data modeling.
- Hands-on experience with TML for environment migrations and content promotion.
- Strong experience managing ThoughtSpot security, including users, groups, RBAC, and platform enablement, with the ability to define and enforce governance guardrails for ThoughtSpot Spotter 3.
- Ability to support operational needs during US Pacific Time (PST) business hours.
