Senior Engineer – Digital, Mobile App – full stack
Job Profile: Senior Engineer 2
Job Purpose:
Working within the Bupa Global digital / mobile app team at Bupa, the Senior Engineer will be an expert in their field with proven full stack mastery experience in mobile app development - React Native (Service layer .NET.); front end React Expo. As a Senior engineer, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting high quality mobile applications for both iOS and Android.
The job holder will have in-depth knowledge of their technical domain allowing them to lead technical analysis, specification, estimation, development, implementation and support of software solutions. Working with business users, third parties, and other colleagues to offer direction and guide development activities, instigate unit test strategies and propose new directions and avenues to expand current capabilities.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Develop high quality mobile applications using React native / React Expo for iOS and Android platforms.
- Working alongside the Digital product owner within projects of varying scope and size.
- Working closely with UI/UX team to ensure design and user experience is consistent and meet requirements.
- Development of new or existing applications and solutions in line with application designs, development standards, methodologies and strategic architecture frameworks.
- Proficiency in coding to WCAG 2.2 AA standards is required to ensure all digital products meet accessibility requirements and regulatory compliance
- Provide input to solution design teams about technical breakdown of applications, impact analysis and validation of proposed solutions.
- Can spot problems prior to development or serve up solutions to combat issues as they arise throughout the lifespan of a project.
- Evaluate existing products and solutions to propose practical improvements, taking ownership and working with colleagues and business owners to implement changes.
- Drive improvements to development practices and technical documentation.
- Take ownership of maintaining and expanding development standards within your technical domain.
- Working closely with business owners and solution designers, lead development of proof of concepts to ensure end to end solutions are fit for purpose.
- Investigate and propose the establishment of new technologies and methodologies that can improve development practices and products.
- Takes ownership for resolving domain specific related problems, which directly or indirectly impact on operational services or development activities.
- Manage implementation activities, change control and release planning.
- Take ownership of improvements for internal documentation of products and technical solutions.
- Become the point of contact for technical and domain specific support for other teams within your technical domain.
- Establish and maintain credibility and working relationships with other teams within Bupa, being an ambassador for Bupa IT within the business community, supporting a customer service culture.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
The role holder is expected to have the following qualification(s), skills and experience:
Technical Must Have Skills:
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in developing mobile application development with focus on full stack React Native / React Expo / Node.js/ Javascript
- Strong and proven experience of Styled components, React Hooks, RN testing library, API integrations (SDKs, Axios), Expo, Storybook.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the full end to end mobile development lifecycle, include experience deploying in Android and IOS ecosystems, tools, and processes.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript experience
- Experience with Redux or similar state management libraries.
- Understanding of alternate mobile development frameworks and techniques, native mobile development on both IOS and Android platforms.
- Experience of Microsoft App Centre and of deployment processes to mobile app stores.
- Strong understanding of mobile performance optimization techniques.
- Strong DevOps experience using Azure DevOps, Webpack, Babel and npm
Preferred, not essential technical skills:

- Strong knowledge and experience of coding standards and source control techniques, including secure and performant code as well as accessibility.
- Ability to work well within a Product team
- Ability to conduct code reviews and provide actionable feedback to engineers
