Researches, designs, develops, tests, debugs and modifies software that is embedded within products such as consumer electronics, computer peripherals and mobile telephones to enable the products to function. Consult with other engineers regarding the interface between hardware and software, development of PC applications to control the sensors, and debugging and troubleshooting of hardware and software such as printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) during board bring up, application programming interface (API), and software development kit (SDK). Document requirements, firmware architecture and communication interfaces. Develops and executes test plans and scripts to ensure new firmware meets specifications, functionalities, and performance requirements. Interfaces with users and potential customers to define system requirements and support integration of products into customer systems. Familiar with machine language, assembly language, and other programming languages (e.g. C, C++, etc.). May participate in all aspects from detailed programming to high-level system design.

We are looking for a talented
Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join the Nordson EFD team. In this role you will be responsible for designing, developing, troubleshooting, and debugging firmware and software programs for electro-mechanical systems that enable precision manufacturing processes and medical fluid handling. You will work on complex hardware-software interaction problems that require strong analytical and data driven approaches to make our products smarter, connected and intelligent.
How YOU Will Make An Impact
- Develop embedded software for microprocessors, microcontrollers and FPGAs to control electro-mechanical actuators, acquire sensor data, implement control algorithms and enable digital communications.
- Collaborate with a global team and develop software and firmware source code in c/c++, embedded c, Verilog/VHDL and other languages.
- Determine hardware compatibility and/or influences of hardware design.
- Influence coding conventions and software development standards within the company.
- Write requirements, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot software APIs/SDKs for industrial controllers as well as work with external vendors to support integration of communication APIs.
- Interface with users & potential customers to define system requirements and support integration of Nordson EFD product into customer systems.
Qualifications To Be Successful
- 10+ years’ experience working on electro-mechanical products with embedded systems, real time control and digital communication interfaces.
- Proficient in C/C++ programming of microcontrollers/microprocessors and FPGA’s. HDL and real-time operating systems experience desired. Knowledge of Python desirable.
- Knowledge of communications protocols such as UART (RS232, RS485), SPI, TCP/IP, MODBUS, Profinet, Ethernet IP etc.
- Knowledge of socket-based communication with other processes / systems is strongly preferred.
- Agile / Scrum / XP development best practices. Experience with version control tools like GitHub, BitBucket.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a global team.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Computer Science
Preferred
- Background in robotics or machine automation.
- Familiarity with Linux operating system and SBCs, storing and retrieving data from SQL database, communication over Web Services, and parsing markup languages like XML and HTML
