Experience: 3+ years
About Powertrace Technologies
Powertrace Technologies is a fast-growing, IIT-Delhi alumni-founded startup building next-generation control systems for the energy transition.
As we scale our utility-scale storage footprint, we are looking for a brilliant, hands-on Senior Embedded Engineer to lead the architecture, design, and execution of our high-voltage BMS platform, operating at 800V and 1500V architectures.
Role Overview
In this role, you will own the firmware development and hardware-software integration for our multi-tier, high-voltage BMS. You will tackle complex engineering challenges surrounding massive cell strings, high-voltage isolation, precision sensing, and ultra-reliable safety-critical communication. You will bridge the gap between complex hardware topology and industrial-grade software to deliver utility-scale reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- High-Voltage Architecture: Architect, develop, and test firmware for BMS in 800V and 1500V battery topologies.
- Firmware Development: Write robust, deterministic, and highly optimized embedded C/C++ code for real-time microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M, TI C2000, or equivalent).
- Protocol & Communication Implementation: Implement and optimize low-level communication protocols (CAN, CAN-FD, SPI, I2C) for daisy-chained AFE ICs, alongside industrial grid protocols (Modbus RTU/TCP, IEC 61850).
- Safety & Diagnostics: Design and implement safety-critical state machines, fault diagnostic algorithms (over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, isolation loss), and contactor control logic for safe system startup/shutdown sequences.
- Algorithmic Integration: Collaborate with the team to implement and optimize real-time state estimation algorithms (SoC, SoH, SoP) and active/passive cell balancing routines.
- HW/SW Co-Design & Testing: Work tightly with the hardware team to bring up new PCBAs, debug high-voltage isolation barriers, validate data integrity against EMI/EMC disruptions, and utilize HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) environments for validation.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3+ years of core embedded firmware and systems development experience, with a definitive track record of shipping production-grade BMS or power electronics controllers.
- High Voltage Domain: Proven understanding of high-voltage systems architecture (creepage/clearance, galvanic isolation, insulation monitoring, and pre-charge circuits). Familiarity with architectures up to 1000V/1500V is highly desirable.
- Microcontrollers & RTOS: Expert-level command over C/C++ for bare-metal or RTOS-based (FreeRTOS, Zephyr) systems.
- AFE & Daisy Chaining: Deep experience interfacing with industrial BMS Analog Front Ends (AFEs) from major manufacturers (e.g., TI, Analog Devices/Maxim, NXP) in a daisy-chained configuration.
- Debugging Tools: Proficient with JTAG/SWD debuggers, digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN bus analysis tools (PCAN, CANalyzer, or Vector tools).
- Startup Grit: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment where you manage projects from concept to physical grid deployment.
- Problem Solver: Exceptionally strong first-principles thinking to isolate issues in complex electro-technical systems.
- Education: B.Tech/M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, or a related field.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to be a core engineering pillar of a high-tech startup disrupting the BESS landscape.
- Highly competitive compensation package, including meaningful equity/ESOP options aligned with company growth.
- Direct ownership over products making an immediate impact on renewable energy grid integration.
