About the Role
RVN India is seeking a skilled Electrical Designer to join our engineering team in Chennai. In this role, you will be responsible for creating comprehensive structures that support complex power, LNG, petrochemical and refining processes. Working closely with our Lead Engineers, you will transform complex process requirements and technical specifications into high-quality 3D models and detailed electrical design packages.
Key Responsibilities
3D Modeling & Layouts: Build and maintain precise 3D models for chemical plant electrical layouts, hazardous area classification zones, cable tray routing, and lighting/grounding systems using industry software (such as AVEVA E3D, S3D, or AutoCAD 3D).
Deliverable Generation: Extract and draft accurate 2D deliverables including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), schematic/wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and electrical installation details.
Process Interfacing: Coordinate actively with Process, Piping, and Instrumentation teams to layout electrical systems safely around chemical process equipment, reactors, and high-pressure piping networks.
Material Management: Extract accurate Material Take-Offs (MTO) and Bill of Materials (BOM) for bulk electrical items (cables, trays, glands, and lighting fixtures) to support fast-track procurement.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all drawing standards, layering conventions, and project drafting specifications strictly adhere to client requirements, international codes (NEC, IEC), and RVN’s Quality Management System (QMS).
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a certified ITI Drafting program.
- Experience: 10+ years of dedicated electrical design and drafting experience, with a heavy focus on heavy chemical, oil & gas, refining, or petrochemical facilities.
- Software Proficiency: Strong hands-on proficiency in AVEVA E3D/S3D, alongside advanced AutoCAD skills.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of standard electrical installation practices in hazardous/classified process environments, cable tray fill-ratios, and multi-discipline space constraints.
