About the role:
The Senior Electrical design engineer has a pivotal role to play in the development of our managing and mentoring a team, projects, undertaking the design of electrical building services and layout design, balance of plan for building and rail infrastructure. Undertaking detailed design work for LV Electrical systems including Cable sizing calculation and cable schedule.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead a team of juniors and trainees
- Mentor and coach the team on technical and non-technical skills
- Coordinate electrical design requirements with multi-discipline teams, producing compliant layouts, safety clearances and cost-effective cable routes.
- Translate outline project scope documents into detailed electrical design requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with UK legislation, including the Health & Safety at Work Act and CDM Regulations.
- Apply industry standards, specifications and best practice across all design activities.
- Maintain strong technical capability and rapidly adapt to evolving energy technologies.
- Identify and resolve design and delivery challenges with a flexible, solution-focused approach.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with clients, contractors and external stakeholders.
- Manage time and priorities effectively, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Skills & Experience Expected:
- Practical experience in cable sizing calculations, cable schedules, electrical load lists, and Single Line Diagrams (SLD).
- Design and verification of low voltage (LV) distribution systems (230/400 Volt).
- Proven capability in general and emergency lighting calculations (indoor, outdoor, and street lighting) using standard lighting design software.
- Design and sizing of Cable Management Systems (CMS) including trunking, trays, and conduits, with self-checking and result presentation.
- Preparation of detailed calculations for major electrical equipment including transformer, Emergency Diesel Generator, capacitor bank, motor, AC UPS, battery & battery charger, and switchgear.
- Preparation, review, and checking of electrical layouts including earthing, lighting, cable tray, trench, cable route, and equipment layouts.
- Experience in vendor document review, model reviews, and participation in project-related workshops.
- Proficiency with AMTECH (Trimble Pro) or equivalent software for low voltage system design, along with strong Microsoft Office skills.
Desired Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s or masters degree level qualification in electrical engineering.
- 10 - 15 years of experience in electrical engineering.
- At least 5 years as a manager or team lead
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to present technical information clearly.
- Eager to learn and develop professionally, with a proactive approach to work.
