Role Brief
The Senior Director - Delivery for Mining Business Digital Transformation & Global Delivery is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing end-to-end delivery of large-scale digital transformation programs in the mining domain. This role serves as the nexus between customer engagement, technical delivery, P&L management, and talent leadership. The incumbent will drive the adoption of Data, AI/ML, and automation technologies across mining operations from exploration and ore processing to logistics and safety, while ensuring excellence in delivery quality, margin performance, and customer satisfaction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Digital Transformation & Mining Domain Leadership
- Architect and lead end-to-end digital transformation roadmaps for mining clients covering exploration, mine planning, ore processing, tailings management, and logistics optimization.
- Drive adoption of AI/ML, predictive analytics, IoT sensor integration, and digital twin technologies across mining assets.
- Establish Cyient as a trusted technology partner for mining clients seeking to transform operations through intelligent automation and data-driven decision-making.
- Provide deep domain expertise in mining processes, safety, and regulatory compliance to guide technical solutioning.
- Lead initiatives in process automation including autonomous haul truck management, conveyor optimization, predictive maintenance, and blast design automation.
2. Data Engineering & AI Project Delivery
- Oversee delivery of complex Data and AI engagements including enterprise data platforms, real-time analytics pipelines, machine learning model deployment, and GenAI applications for mining operations.
- Ensure robust architecture governance across cloud-native data ecosystems, data lakes, and streaming architectures using Kafka, Spark, and Databricks.
- Drive project execution using Agile and SAFe frameworks, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and on-quality delivery of multi-million dollar programs.
- Lead technical reviews, milestone gates, and delivery risk identification across all active mining digital programs.
- Champion the use of MLOps, DataOps, and AI governance practices across all delivery teams.
3. Global Delivery Management
- Lead and manage global delivery operations across distributed teams in India, US, Europe, and Australia, ensuring seamless collaboration across time zones.
- Define and enforce delivery governance frameworks, KPIs, SLAs, and escalation protocols across all accounts.
- Manage program portfolio across 10+ concurrent delivery tracks, balancing priorities, resource utilization, and risk exposure.
- Drive continuous improvement in delivery efficiency, quality metrics, and operational excellence through data-driven insights.
- Partner with PMO to institutionalize best practices in estimation, planning, and execution tracking.
4. Customer Engagement & Relationship Management
- Serve as the executive sponsor and primary delivery point of contact for key mining clients globally including Tier-1 miners, diversified majors, and mid-tier operators.
- Build and sustain CXO-level relationships with customer stakeholders including CDOs, CIOs, VPs of Operations, and Mine General Managers.
- Lead Quarterly Business Reviews, executive steering committees, and strategic alignment workshops with clients.
- Identify and drive account growth opportunities through value-led conversations, translating client pain points into new service lines.
- Ensure high CSAT scores by proactively managing customer expectations, resolving escalations, and demonstrating measurable business outcomes.
5. People Management & Talent Development
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performance team of 150 to 300 professionals across Data Engineering, AI/ML, Cloud, and Mining domain functions.
- Define competency frameworks, career ladders, and skill acceleration plans for AI and Data Engineering practitioners in the mining vertical.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development to design hiring pipelines and upskilling programs for next-generation capabilities.
- Drive a culture of innovation, accountability, and psychological safety across delivery teams.
- Conduct structured performance reviews, succession planning, and leadership grooming for Principal Engineers and Delivery Managers.
6. Financial & Commercial Accountability
- Own P&L responsibility for the Mining Digital Transformation delivery portfolio with revenue targets of USD 20M to 50M annually.
- Drive delivery margin improvement through workforce optimization, automation of delivery processes, and offshore leverage strategies.
- Partner with Sales and Bid Management teams on large deal pursuits, RFP responses, and solution costing for mining digital transformation programs.
- Manage commercial governance including contract compliance, change order management, and revenue recognition accuracy.
- Report delivery health, financial forecasts, and risk posture to executive leadership and business unit heads on a regular cadence.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mining Engineering, or a related technical field.
- MBA or Master's in Technology or Data Science strongly preferred.
Overall Experience
- 18+ years of progressive experience in IT or engineering services, with at least 8 years in senior delivery leadership roles.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale digital transformation programs exceeding USD 10M in value for mining or heavy industry clients.
Domain Expertise - Mining
- Deep understanding of the mining value chain: exploration, drilling and blasting, ore processing, tailings management, mine logistics, and environment/safety compliance.
- Experience deploying AI/ML, IoT, and automation solutions in mining environments covering open-cut, underground, and offshore operations.
- Familiarity with industry standards and mine planning tools including Datamine, Vulcan, and Surpac.
- Exposure to operational technology and IT/OT convergence challenges in mining settings.
Technical Proficiency - Data & AI
- Hands-on architecture or oversight experience with enterprise data platforms including Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, AWS Redshift, and GCP BigQuery.
- Strong understanding of ML lifecycle management, MLOps tools such as MLflow, SageMaker, and Vertex AI, and GenAI frameworks including LangChain and RAG.
- Knowledge of real-time data streaming using Kafka and Spark Streaming and large-scale data engineering pipelines.
- Cloud architecture expertise in AWS, Azure, or GCP with exposure to IIoT platforms and digital twin ecosystems.
Project & Program Management
- PMP, PMI-ACP, or SAFe Program Consultant certification preferred.
- Experience managing multi-track, multi-million dollar programs with global distributed delivery teams.
- Proficiency in project governance tools including Jira, MS Project, Smartsheet, and ServiceNow PPM.
Customer & Commercial Skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage CXO-level relationships and drive account growth in mining or industrial verticals.
- Experience with deal structuring, commercial negotiation, and contract management for T&M, fixed-price, and outcome-based engagements.
- Strong executive communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
