BNY is seeking a
Senior Director – India Head of Compliance & Financial Crime Compliance, India to provide senior leadership across Financial Crime Compliance activities in India, while serving as a key partner to global and regional stakeholders across Compliance, Risk, and business-aligned teams.
This is a senior leadership role with primary responsibility for advancing the India-based Financial Crime Compliance agenda and supporting oversight of business activities across the
US and EMEA. The role is expected to be heavily weighted toward Financial Crime Compliance and will play an important role in strengthening governance, risk management, regulatory alignment, data-driven oversight, and execution across a complex global financial services environment.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in financial crime compliance, strong stakeholder and people leadership capabilities, and the ability to drive strategic execution, analytics-led oversight, and control enhancement in a highly matrixed organization.
Reporting Line
This role will report to senior leadership within Global Risk and Compliance and global Financial Crime Compliance
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways;
- Lead the India-based Financial Crime Compliance agenda, providing strategic direction, governance, and oversight across key financial crime risk areas.
- Serve as a senior partner to global and regional Compliance and FCC stakeholders supporting business activity across the US and EMEA.
- Drive oversight and execution across core financial crime domains, including anti-money laundering, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, and other related compliance risk areas.
- Partner with senior stakeholders to ensure alignment on compliance priorities, regulatory expectations, risk appetite, and control effectiveness.
- Build and sustain a strong India leadership model for FCC, ensuring effective execution, talent development, and organizational resilience.
- Provide leadership across complex, cross-functional initiatives involving Compliance, Risk, operations, analytics, technology, and business teams.
- Use data, reporting, and thematic analysis to identify emerging risks, trends, and areas of regulatory exposure, and translate those insights into actionable remediation priorities.
- Oversee development of executive-ready dashboards, reporting, and management narratives that connect financial crime risks to control effectiveness, issue themes, and regulatory outcomes.
- Promote strong data governance, quality controls, and traceability across compliance reporting and analytics to support consistency, transparency, and audit readiness.
- Support the evolution of scalable monitoring and analytics capabilities, including predictive and anomaly-based approaches where appropriate, to enhance detection of potential compliance issues.
- Lead thematic reviews across financial crime risk areas to identify root causes, control gaps, and opportunities for process and control improvement.
- Drive collaboration across regional and global teams to strengthen governance, operating discipline, and consistency in execution.
- Represent the function in senior management forums, internal reviews, audits, and regulatory interactions, articulating methodologies, controls, outcomes, and evidentiary support with confidence and clarity.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following
- Significant experience in Financial Crime Compliance within a global financial services environment.
- Deep knowledge of financial crime risk management frameworks, including one or more of the following: AML, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, conduct-related compliance risks, surveillance, or related controls and monitoring disciplines.
- Proven senior leadership experience in Compliance and/or Financial Crime Compliance, including the ability to lead teams and influence stakeholders across regions and functions.
- Strong understanding of regulatory expectations and compliance frameworks applicable to large global financial institutions.
- Experience supporting businesses and stakeholders operating across the US and EMEA.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a highly matrixed, globally distributed environment with strong judgment, executive presence, and organizational awareness.
- Experience using data, MI, dashboards, and thematic analysis to enhance risk oversight, decision-making, and control effectiveness.
- Strong understanding of governance, issue management, audit/regulatory readiness, and evidentiary standards in a compliance environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex risk and compliance matters clearly to senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to partner effectively across Compliance, Risk, business, operations, and technology teams to drive execution and outcomes.
- Strong people leadership skills with a track record of building effective teams, developing talent, and creating high-engagement environments.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant industry certifications are a plus.
Preferred Background
- Experience leading large or complex FCC / Compliance teams in a global bank or financial institution.
- Experience with compliance analytics, dashboarding, self-service reporting environments, or risk and control reporting.
- Familiarity with data governance, model controls, and responsible use of analytics or AI-enabled compliance capabilities.
- Experience in internal audit, regulatory exams, or responding to regulatory inquiries in a compliance context.
- Strong understanding of control design, monitoring, quality assurance, and remediation programs within financial crime compliance.
