Senior DevOps Engineer — ArgoCD Migration Lead

Location: Gurgaon, India (hybrid — minimum 3 days/week in office)

Standard India working hours (IST), Mon-Fri

Team: Application Platform

Overview

Lead execution of a 30-week migration programme moving 67+ services from a legacy deployment tool to ArgoCD and per-service GitOps on Kubernetes.

Most infrastructure already exists:

• Reusable GitLab CI templates
• Shared Helm chart (22+ services)
• ArgoCD (dev tier) with ApplicationSets and overlay pattern
• GitOps CI template ready
• Proven production pattern in a sister product

Role focuses on execution: migrate services batch-by-batch, pair with teams, handle edge cases, and decommission the legacy tool.

Success = services migrated, zero migration-related incidents, legacy tool decommissioned.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory, Planning, and Playbook

• Audit all 67+ services (ownership, DB state, Terraform, CI, Helm, dependencies, etc.)
• Score complexity and define migration batches (pilot, stateless, DB, Terraform, edge cases)
• Create per-service migration playbook (CI switch, Helm upgrade, secrets, ArgoCD setup, validation, cutover)
• Define validation and rollback procedures (Argo Rollouts + Git revert)

Pilot and Batch Migrations

• Deliver pilot (3 stateless services) with parallel run and retrospective
• Lead stateless (~20), DB (~25–30), and Terraform/complex (~10) batches
• Ensure safe DB migrations and CI validation gates
• Pair with owning teams on every migration

Legacy Tool Sunset

• Complete edge-case migrations
• Enforce decommission gate (all services migrated, 4+ weeks ArgoCD-only, zero legacy usage)
• Archive configs, update runbooks, support licence cancellation

Enablement and Reporting

• Run enablement sessions for teams
• Maintain FAQ
• Provide weekly status updates

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years DevOps/platform engineering experience
• Hands-on ArgoCD migration experience
• Strong Kubernetes (GKE/AKS)
• Helm, GitLab CI, Terraform in CI
• Database migration patterns (expand-contract)
• Contract testing (Pact, can-i-deploy)
• Experience migrating 20+ services
• Strong collaboration across multiple teams
• Linux, Docker, scripting (Bash/Python)

Nice to have:

Argo Rollouts, Octopus Deploy, GCP/Azure, Workload Identity, BATS, New Relic/Datadog, basic C#/.NET understanding
