Job details:
Ainsurco builds technology that powers insurance policy administration and client servicing. We're looking for a Senior Developer who can lead a development team and give it the structure it needs to consistently ship reliable software for insurance clients.
The Role
You'll manage a development team, build the processes and standards it runs on, and stay hands-on with delivery. We need someone who's led a team before — not just a strong individual contributor — and who can introduce the right amount of process (testing, code review, release workflow, environment promotion) without burying the team in overhead.
What You'll Do
- Manage and mentor a team of developers; own code quality and delivery
- Establish or mature development processes: branching, code review, testing, releases, documentation
- Set standards for data handling and change management appropriate to a regulated, client-facing environment
- Stay hands-on: contribute to design/development and guide key architecture decisions
- Act as technical point of contact for stakeholders and clients
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience managing or leading a development team
- Track record of building or improving development processes from scratch
- Strong full-stack/backend background, comfortable across the stack including relational databases
- Experience in a regulated or data-sensitive industry (insurance, fintech, healthcare) is a plus
- Comfortable working directly with clients and business stakeholders
- Strong async written communication (remote role)
Key Skills
- Python — strong hands-on experience building production backend systems
- API development — designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs; understanding of API security, versioning, and documentation
- Databases — solid grasp of relational databases (schema design, query performance, data integrity); SQL Server experience a plus
- Background processing — experience with task queues/async processing (e.g. Celery or equivalent) for long-running or scheduled jobs
- Deployment & infrastructure — comfortable deploying and managing applications in production, including reverse proxies, environment configuration, and troubleshooting live systems
- CI/CD & DevOps — experience setting up or maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release workflows
- Version control — strong Git practices; branching strategy, code review workflow, repo hygiene
- Cloud platforms — working knowledge of at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
