Roles and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly capable and hands-on Design & Development Engineer who can own precision mechanical components from concept through production. This role requires deep integration of design, materials, and manufacturing processes. The candidate will be responsible for developing high-performance, reliable, and manufacturable components while working closely with CNC, quality, and production teams.
Core Responsibilities
Design Ownership
- Independently design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies.
- Create production-grade 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Define datum strategy, fits, tolerances, and functional relationships between components.
Functional Engineering and Validation
- Analyze load paths, stress points, and functional behavior of components.
- Perform tolerance stack-up and ensure functional reliability under operating conditions.
- Conduct failure analysis and implement design improvements.
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation cycles.
Manufacturing Integration
- Translate designs into CNC-machinable components (VMC, HMC, Turn-Mill).
- Define machining strategy, setups, and fixture concepts in collaboration with production teams.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, and cycle time.
- Resolve shopfloor issues through design and process modifications.
Reverse Engineering and Improvement
- Lead reverse engineering of legacy or sample components.
- Redesign parts to improve performance, durability, and manufacturability.
- Benchmark and optimize existing designs.
Documentation and Control
- Maintain controlled engineering documentation (drawings, BOM, revisions).
- Ensure accuracy in ECN/ECR processes and drawing release discipline.
- Support first-article inspection and production documentation.
Critical Skills
- Strong command of GD&T, fits, tolerances, and precision engineering principles.
- Deep understanding of materials (alloy steels, stainless steels) and heat treatment.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining processes and constraints.
- Ability to convert design intent into manufacturable, production-ready parts.
- Hands-on problem-solving mindset with strong shopfloor interaction capability.
Preferred Skills
- CAM exposure (SOLIDWORKS, NX CAM, Mastercam, etc.).
- Experience with simulation or verification tools.
- Exposure to high-reliability or safety-critical components.
- Reverse engineering tools and workflows.
Experience and Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 5–12 years of relevant experience in precision engineering, aerospace, or high-performance mechanical systems.
- Proven track record of taking components from design to production.
