About the Role
We are seeking an experienced DegreeWorks Developer with strong hands-on expertise in Ellucian Banner to support degree audit configuration, integration, and ongoing enhancement work for a US-based higher education client. The ideal candidate will have deep functional and technical knowledge of DegreeWorks scribing, Banner SIS data structures, and the integration layer connecting the two systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain DegreeWorks Scribe blocks (major, minor, concentration, gen-ed, and rule blocks) using Scribe language.
- Configure and troubleshoot DegreeWorks What-If scenarios, academic planning, and Student Educational Planner (SEP) modules.
- Manage DegreeWorks–Banner integration, including data feeds, nightly batch processes, and API-based interfaces.
- Develop and maintain custom reports, audits, and dashboards using DegreeWorks Dashboard/Insight tools.
- Perform Ellucian Banner development, configuration, and support across Student, Financial Aid, and/or Registrar modules as needed.
- Write and optimize PL/SQL/SQL queries, stored procedures, and packages against the Banner Oracle database (e.g., SGBSTDN, SFRSTCR, SHRTCKN).
- Support DegreeWorks version upgrades, patches, and migrations, including transitions to DegreeWorks 6.x / cloud-based DegreeWorks where applicable.
- Collaborate with functional teams (Registrar, Academic Advising, IT) to translate catalog/curriculum requirements into technical Scribe logic.
- Conduct testing, validation, and QA of degree audits against catalog requirements each academic term/catalog year.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement fixes within SLA.
- Document technical specifications, configuration changes, and support runbooks.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and coordinate with distributed teams across US and India time zones.
Required Technical Skills
DegreeWorks (Core – Mandatory)
- 5–8 years of hands-on experience with DegreeWorks Scribe Language (Block, Rule, and Requirement scribing).
- Experience with DegreeWorks Administration module (Admin Cache, Encoder, Scriber, Server Administration).
- Strong understanding of DegreeWorks architecture (Web Application, Server, Database components).
- Experience with What-If Audits, Look Ahead, and Student Educational Planner (SEP).
- Familiarity with DegreeWorks APIs / Web Services for integration purposes.
- Experience with DegreeWorks upgrades (on-prem to cloud transitions is a plus).
Ellucian Banner (Mandatory)
- Working experience as an Ellucian Banner Developer (Banner XE / Banner 9).
- Strong knowledge of Banner Student module data structures and forms.
- Experience with Banner INB (Internet Native Banner) and Banner XE self-service applications.
- Understanding of Banner integration tools: Ethos Integration, Banner Web Tailor, or Banner APIs.
- Familiarity with Banner Workflow / Banner Document Management (BDM) is a plus.
Database & Technical
- Strong Oracle SQL/PL-SQL development skills (stored procedures, packages, triggers, performance tuning).
- Experience with data extraction, batch jobs, and job scheduling (e.g., Automic/Appworx or similar Banner job scheduler).
- Familiarity with XML, Java, or shell scripting for integration and automation tasks (preferred).
- Exposure to Ethos Data Model / Ethos Integration APIs (preferred).
Other Technical Competencies
- Understanding of higher-education academic structures: catalogs, curriculum, degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation.
- Experience working with change management and version control (Git/SVN).
- Knowledge of SDLC and ticketing/ITSM tools (ServiceNow, JIRA, Remedy).
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Prior experience supporting a higher-ed client directly (university/college IT department or vendor engagement).
- Experience with DegreeWorks Communication/Notify module.
- Exposure to Ellucian Colleague (as a secondary SIS) is a plus.
- Experience with data migration/conversion projects involving Banner and DegreeWorks.
- Familiarity with FERPA and higher-ed data privacy/compliance requirements.
Soft Skills / Work Requirements
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with US-based stakeholders (Registrar's Office, Advising, IT).
- Ability to work independently in a remote setup with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to align working hours to provide meaningful overlap with EST (typically covering late afternoon/evening IST).
- Strong documentation and analytical/problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5–8 years of total IT experience, with a significant portion focused on DegreeWorks and/or Ellucian Banner.
- Prior experience in a higher-education technology environment strongly preferred.
