Enterprise Technology Services
The Enterprise Technology Services organization partners with every part of the American Express business to power the company’s growth and innovation with trust and efficiency, and drive competitive differentiation with speed, by supporting the delivery and operations of technology capabilities, platforms, and services globally. Specifically, the team is responsible for the company’s technology engineering, architecture, and infrastructure, providing 24x7 support to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality experience for external customers and internal colleagues. It also encompasses product management for core enterprise platforms, as well as technology risk and information security; enterprise data governance and platforms; digital product and design; and enterprise AI platforms across the American Express enterprise
Responsibilities
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to lead teams building enterprise-grade Generative AI platforms and MCP (Model Context Protocol) tooling that power our enterprise semantic layer. This role owns technical strategy, and delivery of scalable GenAI capabilities that enable secure, context-aware applications across the organization
- Lead and grow high-performing engineering teams developing GenAI platforms, MCP toolkits, and semantic-layer capabilities.
- Define technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for MCP-based integrations and GenAI enablement.
- Partner with product, data, AI/ML, and platform leaders to deliver enterprise-ready GenAI solutions.
- Drive adoption of best practices for LLM integration, RAG, semantic search, safety, and governance.
- Ensure high standards for engineering excellence, reliability, security, and operational readiness.
- Mentor engineers and managers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 8–12+ years of software engineering experience.
- Proven experience leading platform or infrastructure teams delivering complex, distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of GenAI systems, LLM tooling, embeddings, and semantic architectures.
- Experience with cloud platforms, APIs, and secure enterprise integrations.
- Ability to balance hands-on technical depth with people leadership and execution.
- Nice to Have
- Experience with MCP or agent frameworks (OpenAI tools, Lang Chain, LlamaIndex).
- Background in semantic layers, knowledge graphs, or enterprise data platforms.
- Familiarity with AI governance, risk, and compliance in regulated environments.
