At Xapton, we are looking for an experienced Taxonomist to join our Digital Business Intelligence and Analytics (DBIA) initiatives. This role is critical in building, governing, and evolving enterprise taxonomies that drive data consistency, discovery, and intelligent insights across systems.
You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including taxonomy and ontology governance groups, product teams, business units, IT developers, and system owners. The role also involves a strong communication and education component to drive adoption and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, create, and maintain enterprise taxonomies aligned with business requirements
- Govern taxonomy standards, attributes, and frameworks across systems
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert, Consultant, and Advocate for taxonomy best practices
- Gather stakeholder requirements and facilitate alignment across teams
- Manage taxonomy-related projects and ensure successful implementation
- Educate stakeholders on taxonomy usage, governance, and value
Essential Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in taxonomy management and governance in large organizations
- Proven expertise in building taxonomies from business requirements
- Strong experience in requirement gathering, documentation, and enforcing standards
- Understanding of content/knowledge management and search & retrieval systems
- Basic knowledge of semantic ontologies
- Familiarity with NLP engines
Desired Skills
- Experience with SKOS standards
- Hands-on exposure to Graph databases and ontology frameworks
- Knowledge of NLP strategies for optimization and discovery
- Familiarity with tools like Semantic Web Pool Party, TopQuadrant EDG, GraphDB (Ontotext)
