Role Description
We are looking for a Category Manager to drive product assortment, pricing strategy, and category performance for a fast-growing consumer commerce platform in the petcare industry. The role involves working closely with suppliers, operations, and marketing teams to ensure strong category growth and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Category Planning & Product Assortment
- Define product assortment across assigned categories based on customer demand, trends, and competitor benchmarking.
- Identify high-performing products, brands, and price points for each category.
- Continuously optimize category mix by adding, removing, or replacing SKUs.
Pricing & Margin Management
- Develop pricing strategies to remain competitive while maintaining target margins.
- Monitor competitor pricing across online and offline channels.
- Work with vendors to negotiate better pricing and promotional support.
Product Performance Analysis
- Track category-level performance including sales, conversion rates, repeat purchase rates, and return rates.
- Analyze SKU-level performance and identify low-performing products for removal.
- Recommend cross-sell, upsell, and bundling opportunities.
Vendor & Brand Coordination
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure stock availability and timely replenishment.
- Identify opportunities to onboard new brands and expand category depth.
- Work closely with procurement teams on vendor negotiations and assortment planning.
Marketing & Merchandising Support
- Collaborate with marketing teams to promote priority categories, hero SKUs, and seasonal campaigns.
- Recommend featured products, category banners, and promotional offers.
- Support launch planning for new product categories.
Requirements
- 3 – 6 years’ experience in category management, merchandising, procurement, or retail buying.
- Strong understanding of product assortment, pricing, and margin management.
- Experience in e-commerce, retail, FMCG, or consumer brands preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with sales and pricing data.
- Familiarity with Excel, Google Sheets, or reporting tools.
