A Brief Overview
As a member of the Enterprise Data & Analytics team, the Senior Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing enterprise BI solutions that enable trusted, insight‑driven decision‑making. This role combines deep hands‑on BI expertise with strong business partnership, working closely with stakeholders, data enablement, and data science teams to deliver high‑quality reporting and visual analytics.
The Senior BI Developer ensures BI solutions are accurate, scalable, well‑governed, and aligned to business priorities. This role plays a key part in advancing visualisation standards, supporting analytical use cases, and driving adoption of best practices across the BI ecosystem.
BI Solution Design & Development
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise BI dashboards and reports using Power BI, ensuring clear, effective insights while maintaining high standards of data accuracy and consistency.
- Translate business needs into technical BI solutions, applying advanced visualisation techniques to support diverse analytical use cases.
- Continuously enhance dashboard performance, usability, and storytelling to support business and leadership decision‑making.
Data Analysis & Visualization
- Assist in analysing data to model ideal customer profiles, identify key trends, patterns, and insights across business domains.
- Translate data findings into compelling visualisations that aid understanding of complex datasets.
- Support business insights through the development of descriptive and diagnostic reporting, selecting appropriate visualisations to identify trends, variances, and outliers.
Business Partnership & Insight Enablement
- Partner closely with business stakeholders to gather, clarify, and validate reporting and analytics requirements.
- Refine problem statements, success metrics, and analytical outcomes in collaboration with business teams.
- Translate analytical results into clear, executive‑ready insights that support informed decision‑making.
Data Integration & Platform Collaboration
- Responsible for incorporating new data sources from third‑party applications for use in dashboards and reports, in conjunction with the data enablement team.
- Partner with data engineering and platform teams to ensure source data is reliable, well‑modelled, and performant for BI consumption.
- Ensure adherence to enterprise standards for data quality, governance, access controls, and metric definitions.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Optimisation
- Partner with the data science team to optimise database objects based upon business requirements, enabling advanced analytics, experimentation, and insight generation.
- Collaborate with upstream teams on schema design, aggregations, and performance improvements that support both BI and advanced analytics use cases.
- Act as a strong collaborator across BI, data engineering, and data science teams to deliver cohesive, end‑to‑end analytical solutions.
Standards, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to BI development standards, visualisation guidelines, and documentation practices.
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance BI capabilities, including adoption of new Power BI and GenBI features where appropriate.
- Monitor usage and performance of BI assets and refine solutions based on feedback and evolving business needs.
- Stay current with industry trends in BI, visual analytics, and enterprise reporting.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or related field
- Master’s Degree with Analytics or Data Science specialization preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Typically 6+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data reporting roles
- Strong experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar)
- Experience working with enterprise data warehouses and complex data ecosystems
- Experience working with business stakeholders across multiple functions
- BI Certifications like Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL‑300), Tableau or Looker certifications preferred
- Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) or equivalent BI certification are a plus
License and Certifications
