Role Description:
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Senior Business Development Manager based in Kolkata, with extensive field travel across West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and the North East. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing and growing SSPL's order book in Eastern India within the repair, rehabilitation, retrofitting, and waterproofing segment, and will effectively serve as the face of SSPL in the region.
The role demands strong on-ground presence and the ability to build trust-based relationships with:
- Government departments, PSUs, and municipal bodies (KMC, KMDA, PWD West Bengal, CPWD, MoRTH, NHAI, Eastern Railway, SAIL, CIL, Kolkata Port Trust, Paradip Port, NTPC Eastern Region, DVC, and similar authorities)
- Private structural and civil consultants, design firms, and proof consultants across Eastern India
- EPC majors, plant owners, facility managers, and industrial clients in the steel, power, mining, and petrochemical belts
- Architects, project management consultants, and society/redevelopment stakeholders
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying upcoming tenders, RFPs, and negotiated work across government and private channels in Eastern India; tracking them from pre-tender stage through award
- Regularly visiting government offices and consultant offices to build long-term relationships, get SSPL empanelled with regional authorities, and influence scope and specifications in favour of specialist repair methodologies
- Conducting site visits across the region, preparing techno-commercial proposals, BOQs, and method statements in coordination with the head office technical team in Mumbai
- Leading contract negotiation, rate discussions, and commercial closure
- Maintaining a structured pipeline, forecasting revenue, and achieving assigned order-booking and collection targets for the East zone
- Coordinating with execution, design, and procurement teams at HO to ensure smooth handover from BD to delivery
- Representing SSPL at regional industry forums, IStructE/ICI/IIBE chapter events, and client meets in Eastern India
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of relevant business development experience in the structural repair, rehabilitation, retrofitting, waterproofing, or construction chemicals industry (non-negotiable)
- Demonstrated track record of liaising with government departments, PSUs, and infrastructure authorities in Eastern India, with an existing network of contacts in regional offices
- Established working relationships with structural consultants and design firms in Kolkata and the broader East zone
- Strong understanding of the repair and strengthening domain: NDT, CFRP, micro concrete, epoxy systems, PMM, ICCP, and similar technologies (ability to hold a technical conversation with consultants and clients)
- Hands-on experience with tender portals (GeM, CPP, WBTenders, and other state e-procurement platforms), pre-qualification documentation, and EMD/PBG processes
- Proven ability to prepare and defend techno-commercial proposals and negotiate contracts independently
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills in English, Hindi, and Bengali (Bengali fluency is essential for this role)
- Comfortable operating semi-independently from a regional base with HO support from Mumbai
- Willingness to travel extensively across Eastern India for client and site meetings
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is strongly preferred; MBA in Marketing/Sales is a plus
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM tools
