Role Description The Senior Building Automation Design Engineer is a full-time remote role responsible for leading the design and engineering of building automation systems for commercial and industrial projects. This role includes developing control system architectures, specifying field devices and controllers, and producing detailed engineering documents such as control diagrams, points lists, and sequences of operation. The engineer will review project requirements and mechanical drawings, coordinate with HVAC controls contractors and internal stakeholders, and ensure designs meet performance, safety, and code compliance standards. Day-to-day activities include preparing design submittals, supporting programming and commissioning teams, reviewing as-built documentation, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers. The role also involves contributing to process improvements, maintaining design standards, and supporting multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering and Machine Design, with experience applying these skills to HVAC systems and building services.
- Proficiency in Electrical Engineering, including control circuits, low-voltage systems, and integration of sensors, actuators, and controllers.
- Hands-on experience with Automation, particularly building automation systems (BAS), DDC controls, and integration with BMS platforms.
- Familiarity with EDA or related engineering design and documentation tools used for schematics, control diagrams, and system layouts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., LEED, PE, CEM) are a plus.
- Proven experience in building automation or HVAC controls design, including developing sequences of operation and points lists.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment, managing multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
