Company Description Superfan.ng (SPNG) is an edtech learning platform dedicated to African languages and cultural knowledge. Role Description This is a full-time, remote role for a Senior Backend Developer. The person in this role will design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power the Superfan learning platform. Day-to-day work includes architecting systems, writing clean and efficient server-side code, integrating databases and third-party services, and ensuring performance, reliability, and security. The Senior Backend Developer will collaborate closely with product, design, and frontend teams to deliver new features, optimize existing functionality, and support data-driven improvements. The role also involves code reviews, mentoring less experienced developers, and contributing to technical decision-making and best practices.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Computer Science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Hands-on experience in Back-End Web Development, including RESTful APIs, microservices, and database integration.
- Proficiency in Software Development and Programming with at least one modern backend language (e.g., Node.js, Python, Go, Java, or similar).
- Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and related design patterns.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, caching, and performance optimization.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and DevOps practices (e.g., CI/CD, containerization, monitoring, and logging).
- Ability to write clean, testable code and conduct thorough code reviews.
- Effective communication skills and experience collaborating in remote, cross-functional teams.
- Previous experience in edtech, consumer apps, or culturally focused products is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
