About Us
The Spine Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering free, high-quality spine care to underprivileged communities in rural India. Founded over 25 years ago by a team of committed spine surgeons, the foundation focuses on alleviating chronic pain, limited mobility, and loss of livelihood caused by spinal disorders. Through specialized camps and outreach programs, it provides essential diagnostics, surgeries, and rehabilitation to individuals who otherwise could not afford such care. A volunteer network of leading Indian spine surgeons ensures patients receive expert treatment and a real chance to regain independence. In addition to clinical services, the foundation actively promotes spinal health awareness and preventive education to enable long-term community well-being.
Role Description
The Spine Foundation is looking for a highly committed and mature professional to work closely with Dr. Shekar Bhojraj and shadow him across his institutional, clinical, field, donor, partner and stakeholder engagements.
This is a senior coordination and documentation role designed to support continuity, capture institutional knowledge, strengthen follow-up systems and enable more structured planning around Dr. Bhojraj’s work. The role is not a conventional Executive Assistant or Research Associate position. It requires someone who can understand the purpose of TSF’s work, observe closely, document meaningfully, coordinate with multiple stakeholders and support the translation of conversations into clear action points.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shadowing Dr. Bhojraj’s Work
Accompany or closely support Dr. Bhojraj across meetings, visits, discussions, field engagements, hospital and doctor interactions, partner meetings and other institutional activities. The person will be expected to understand the context, capture key points and ensure that important conversations are not lost.
2. Documentation of Conversations and Engagements
Prepare concise and useful notes from meetings, field visits, calls and stakeholder interactions. This will include recording key decisions, commitments, follow-up points, relationship context and any strategic issues that require attention.
3. Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise regularly with doctors, hospitals, field teams, partners, donors, advisors, board members, consultants and other stakeholders connected with TSF’s work. The person should be able to communicate professionally, follow up respectfully and ensure that coordination does not remain dependent only on Dr. Bhojraj.
4. Planning, Scheduling and Follow-up
Support planning and scheduling of Dr. Bhojraj’s meetings, visits and travel-linked engagements. This includes coordinating with relevant people, preparing briefs before meetings, ensuring that background information is available, and tracking follow-up after each engagement.
5. Institutional Memory and Continuity
Help TSF build stronger institutional memory around Dr. Bhojraj’s relationships, decisions, field insights and strategic directions. The person should be able to organise information in a way that helps the wider team, leadership and advisors take work forward with clarity.
6. Support to Strategic and Operational Priorities
Work closely with Dr. Bhojraj and other identified team members or consultants to support planning around institutional priorities, donor conversations, centre-level engagements, doctor networks, camps, outreach visits and emerging opportunities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should have:
• A Master’s degree in social work, public health, development studies, management, hospital administration, rural development or a related field.
• 5-8 years of relevant experience, preferably with exposure to both grassroots work and management-level coordination.
• Prior experience working closely with senior leadership, founders, trustees, doctors, programme heads or institutional leaders.
• Strong understanding of community-based work, health systems, rural development or social sector institutions.
• Excellent documentation, note-taking and synthesis skills.
• Ability to capture not just minutes of meetings, but the larger context, relationships, concerns and follow-up actions.
• Strong coordination and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage sensitive conversations with maturity and discretion.
• Comfort with travel and accompanying leadership for field visits, stakeholder meetings and institutional engagements.
• Good written and spoken communication skills in English and Hindi; knowledge of Marathi or other regional languages will be an added advantage.
• High level of integrity, patience, humility and commitment to the cause of equitable spine care.
Personal Attributes
The person must be deeply aligned with TSF’s mission and should be comfortable working in a role that requires observation, listening, coordination and quiet leadership. They should be proactive without being intrusive, organised without being bureaucratic, and sensitive to the clinical, human and institutional dimensions of Dr. Bhojraj’s work.
This role is suitable for someone who is passionate about public health and social impact, and who sees value in helping an institution strengthen continuity around a founder’s vision, relationships and way of working.
Reporting and Working Relationship
The person will work closely with Dr. Bhojraj and coordinate with identified members of the TSF team, doctors, external advisors and consultants as required. The role will require regular interaction with internal and external stakeholders and will involve both office-based and travel-linked responsibilities.
Expected Outcome of the Role
- Over time, the role should help TSF ensure that Dr. Bhojraj’s work, relationships, insights and decisions are better captured, followed through and institutionalized. The position is intended to strengthen continuity, coordination and leadership support as TSF prepares for its next phase of growth and sustainability.
