About the Role We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our Global Mobility Services (GMS) practice in Chennai. You will work on India-side compliance and advisory matters for inbound and outbound assignees of multinational clients, with hands-on ownership of expatriate tax return preparation, equalization computations, and cost projections.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare India individual income tax returns for expatriate assignees (inbound and outbound), including residential status analysis, DTAA positions, and foreign tax credit computations.
- Build and review tax equalization, hypothetical tax, and tax protection calculations in line with client mobility policies.
- Prepare assignment cost projections, gross-up calculations, and policy comparisons to support client decision-making.
- Handle India-side compliance: Form 16, Form 12BA, Form 67, advance tax workings, and other statutory filings.
- Coordinate with shadow payroll teams, Indian payroll vendors, and home-country counterparts for accurate compensation reporting.
- Maintain assignee trackers, prepare client status reports, and respond to assignee queries on tax positions.
- Conduct departure and arrival tax briefings for assignees under supervision.
- Support seniors on advisory matters covering PE risk, secondment vs. deputation structures, and social security exemptions.
Qualifications & Experience
- CA / CA (Inter) / MBA (Finance) / M.Com / B.Com with 3–5 years of relevant experience.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in Indian expatriate taxation and return filing (not coordination-only).
- Working knowledge of the Income-tax Act, 1961, India tax treaties, FEMA basics, and social security totalization agreements.
- Proficiency in Excel; exposure to tax software (Winman, ClearTax, Genius, or proprietary tools) is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English.
