Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role. The role will provide strategic insights to the client’s senior leadership on Defense and Security market and client priorities, including growth strategies, competition, innovation, industry disruptions, alliances, and ecosystems. It requires to learn and apply established research tools and methodologies to deliver consultative research solutions. The role will synthesize disparate information by identifying patterns and structuring it into a compelling narrative. It requires contributing to brainstorming sessions by applying a holistic understanding of project requirements and client capabilities to propose effective solutions. The role requires to liaise with global colleagues to align on project expectations, manage project delivery by applying strong project and time management practices and adhering to quality guidelines and contribute to team activities and mentor new team members.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker who can translate complex data into actionable business strategies, driving innovation and competitive advantage for the client.
Core Skills
Industry Knowledge
- Strong understanding of defense budgets, procurement, and supply chains (global and regional).
- Familiarity with national security and homeland security operating models (e.g., border security, immigration processing, cross-border trade).
- Understanding of justice system value chains and operations (e.g. courts and case management, corrections, probation and parole, prosecution, legal aid, policing operating models, and oversight).
- Familiarity with aerospace and defense organizations, supply chains, and operations.
- Ability to define key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to the sector.
- Understanding of the demand, supply, and economic factors that drive KPIs.
Scoping
- Ability to lead discussions with stakeholders and propose research approaches based on Defense and Security domain knowledge.
- Ability to clarify research requirements through effective listening, comprehension, and probing.
- Ability to translate requirements into a clear scope and propose creative solutions aligned to stakeholder needs.
Secondary research
Ability to efficiently source sector-related information (e.g., government spending, procurement, supply chains, security and justice operations) from credible sources, including:
- Strong knowledge of databases, public information sources, and sector-specific sources.
- Ability to validate and triangulate sources for relevance and accuracy.
- Ability to develop new products, services, or solutions that deliver insights to new and existing stakeholders.
Insight generation
Ability to provide actionable insights to practitioners, including:
- Understanding of strategic and forecasting models and frameworks, and the ability to apply them as relevant.
- Strong critical thinking to look beyond the obvious and develop hypotheses.
- Ability to generate forward-looking insights using qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Experience translating insights into clear visuals and well-structured stories.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree from a premier business school with 3–6 years of work experience, including at least 2 years in Defense and Security-focused research.
- Master’s degree in economics or public policy is a value-add.
- Strong attention to detail and end-to-end ownership of work.
- Ability to lead consultative discussions with stakeholders and propose solutions.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and hypothesis-driven problem solving.
- Strong business writing and communication skills; ability to distil complex information into concise narratives for executive audiences.
- Strong storyboarding and visualization skills; consistent professional email etiquette.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with research sources and tools (e.g., government budget documents, procurement tools, national statistical databases, RAND).
- Exposure to GenAI tools; prompt engineering experience is an advantage.
- Client service exposure, or experience working directly with senior leadership, is preferred.
