About the Role:
We're building a health-genomics product and looking for a Senior AI / Backend Engineer to be the technical owner of everything server-side. You'll architect and build the APIs, run the pipeline that processes a user's DNA file, train and validate the AI models, and own the cloud infrastructure and security. You'll also lead a small pod - the engineer the rest of the team turns to for technical direction.
What You'll Do:
Design, build, and own backend APIs and services end-to-end.
Build and run the data pipeline that processes raw genetic files into useful insights.
Train, validate, and ship ML models using scikit-learn.
Own the AWS cloud setup — deployment, CI/CD, containerization, and security.
Ensure personal and health data is handled safely and kept out of logs.
Lead a small engineering pod: review code, set standards, and mentor a junior engineer.
Must Have:
~6 years of professional Python experience.
Strong experience with FastAPI (or strong async Flask/Django).
Solid PostgreSQL skills.
Production experience on AWS, including Docker and CI/CD.
Hands-on experience training and validating ML models with scikit-learn.
Track record as the lead backend owner of a real, shipped product.
Nice to Have
Experience with genetic file formats (VCF, 23andMe).
Experience with health data or other regulated/sensitive data.
Terraform, Sentry, or Grafana.
