ROLE SUMMARY
Shahbaz & Associates, CPAs is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing practice. In this role, you will lead client engagements across accounting, assurance, and tax, prepare and review financial statements, and serve as a trusted advisor to a diverse portfolio of clients. You will also mentor junior staff and help uphold the technical quality and professional standards that define our firm.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepare and review financial statements, working papers, and supporting schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations for multiple clients.
• Support and execute compilation, review, and audit engagements from planning through completion.
• Maintain general ledgers, fixed asset schedules, and bookkeeping for client accounts.
• Advise clients on accounting treatment, internal controls, tax planning, and regulatory compliance.
• Correspond with tax authorities and support responses to notices, examinations, and audits.
• Supervise, mentor, and review the work of staff accountants and interns.
• Monitor engagement budgets, timelines, and client deliverables to ensure quality and profitability.
• Stay current on changes in accounting standards, tax law, and firm methodology.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in public accounting.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and current federal and state tax regulations.
• Proven experience preparing and reviewing financial statements.
TECHNICAL & SOFT SKILLS
• Proficiency with accounting and tax software (e.g., QuickBooks and CCH Axcess).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; comfort with paperless workflow tools.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a client-service mindset.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
• Sound professional judgment, integrity, and attention to detail.
PREFERRED / NICE TO HAVE
• Experience serving small-to-mid-sized businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
• Exposure to multi-state and nonprofit engagements.
• Prior experience supervising or training junior staff.
• Familiarity with QuickBooks Online advisory and client accounting services (CAS).
