The Industrial Engineer Intern will support manufacturing operations by analyzing processes, collecting and interpreting data, and assisting with continuous improvement initiatives. This role provides hands-on experience in a production environment and exposure to Lean manufacturing, work measurement, and data-driven decision making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Assist in process improvement projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost
- Conduct time studies and support development of standard work
- Create and update process maps, value stream maps, and layouts
- Analyze production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement
- Support Lean initiatives such as 5S, waste reduction, and Kaizen events
- Develop reports, dashboards, and presentations using Excel or other analytics tools
- Collaborate with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams
- Document findings and present recommendations to engineering and operations leadership
- Support special projects related to productivity, ergonomics, or capacity planning
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Completed at least sophomore-level coursework
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, charts, formulas)
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Physical & Work Environment
- Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to machinery and production areas
- Ability to stand or walk on the production floor for extended periods
- Use of appropriate PPE as required
Potential Projects
- Conduct time and workflow studies on Quarterfold line to support justification for automation.
- Develop Standard Work for packaging machine changeover.
- Lead 5S project to help organize work material in production cell.
- Develop Standard work practices for Slitter setup on JRT2.
- Safety Project (TBD).
Physical Demands
- Majority of work will be done while seated at a desk.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to use a computer and phone to conduct business.
