Job Description Summary
As an Engineer – Control & Protection at GE Vernova Grid Solutions, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and optimizing protection relay systems for EHV/HV substations considering the safety/quality/Cost/time delivery criteria. Your expertise will ensure the reliability and efficiency of power systems, supporting our global operations across various regions.
This role involves in working for the secondary engineering activities (Control & Protection, Substation Automation Systems, Interface Engineering, Telecom Requirements & LV Auxiliary Systems for EHV/HV Electrical Substations (AIS / GIS / HVDC / FACTS / STATCOM / Onshore / Offshore / Renewable/etc.,)
The candidate shall execute with association of workgroups, where applicable, in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role, the candidate will work within defined parameters to draw conclusions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning. The candidate will work with GSI Global Engineering Center (GSI GEC) to coordinate with the GSI Regions / Business Lines / as per Project requirement.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Specific Role Requirements:
- Design and prepare Engineering drawings (SLD/KLD/PSLD/CRP) as per project requirement in anyone of E-CAD Tool (Ex. Engineering Base software/E-Plan/ AutoCAD Electrical/equivalent) for up to 400/765kV Substations.
- Design/Review the Substation automation system based on IEC61850 & interconnections.
- Review BOQ and Network drawings of PLCC/FOTE engineering and need to interface between CRP & SAS with Telecom Equipment.
- Review equipment drawings of major Substation Equipment for AIS / GIS like Circuit breakers, Isolators, Earth switches, CSD, PDM, Transformers/Reactors & associated Conditional Monitoring Devices etc.,
- Perform CT and VT and its sizing calculations.
- Design and review the control/Power cable engineering in substations.
- Design the LV/LT auxiliary systems for Electrical Substations and interface with the SAS/SCADA.
- Perform/review the protection relay application / setting calculations and coordination including tripping analysis.
Add-on Competency (Optional)
- Renewable project engg i.e. Solar, On-shore / Off-shore Wind, Battery Storage or hybrid.
- HVDC/FACTS integrated project applications.
- Perform/Review the study on Electrical Power systems and load flow and short circuit studies etc.,
- Competency on specialized tools like CANECO, ETAP, DIG Silent or equivalent
- Working experience in SAS, Database Preparation in the automation/RTU software
- Review / consolidate the IO Mapping with respect to the scheme drawings/troubleshoot of database issues in SAS system / RTU based system.
- Able to work with different make IEDs, Numerical protection relays and BCUs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in electrical engineering or related field, from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience with Degree or 4+ years with Diploma in EHV/ HV AIS & GIS Substation design.
- Experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) environments with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience of Secondary(CRP/SAS, Aux Systems, Telecom, Interface) engineering up to 765kV/400kV/220KV and HVDC Substations (AIS/GIS/SOLAR/WIND).
- Experience/Knowledge on Relay Testing, Equipment Testing, Control / Protection scheme testing & SAS Commissioning experience (min 1 year) shall be given additional weightage.
Desired Characteristics
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, responsive and supervision skills. Demonstrated ability to evaluate and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to manage programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
- Fluent in English; additional language (any foreign Language) is a plus.
- Willingness to travel internationally as required.
