Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a 2nd Mate Officer based at Port Centre NTCPWC, supporting Chennai Port operations and maritime technology projects.

The officer will be responsible for navigation, watch-keeping, and assisting in vessel operations, along with supporting advanced initiatives such as ship simulation and digital twin systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include voyage planning, monitoring navigation systems, maintaining charts and logs, and ensuring compliance with maritime safety regulations.

The role involves collaborating with technical teams, port authorities, and researchers to contribute to vessel traffic analysis, simulation studies, and operational efficiency projects, offering exposure to innovative maritime technologies and port management systems.

Qualifications

· Certificate of Competency (COC) – Second Mate (FG) (Mandatory)

· Valid STCW Certification

· GMDSS Operator Certificate

· Minimum 12–24 months sea experience as Deck Officer / Junior Officer

· Strong knowledge of navigation systems (ECDIS, Radar, AIS) and COLREGS

· Ability to work in dynamic environments including onboard vessels and port operations

· Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
