Seattle Roots Community Health is a not-for-profit organization that operates two primary care clinics, an After-Hours Clinic, two School-Based Health Centers, a low barrier Medication-assisted treatment clinic and a Dental Clinic. Our Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center was founded in 1970 in Seattle's Central District. Our Country Doctor Community Clinic was established in 1971 by residents of the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Job Summary
The Staff Accountant works closely with the Controller to ensure timely and accurate month-end close, financial reporting, and compliance with accounting standards. This role focuses on accounting, reporting, and analysis and does not include responsibility for transactional processing such as payroll or accounts payable.
This role also includes responsibility for reviewing and validating transactional activity processed by the Finance Operations Specialist to ensure accuracy and completeness. The position operates as part of a collaborative finance team, working closely across accounting and finance operations functions to support efficient and effective financial processes.
General Accounting & Reconciliations
· Perform general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations (monthly, quarterly, and annually), ensuring all balances are supported with appropriate documentation
· Maintain subsidiary ledgers and supporting schedules for key balance sheet accounts
· Research, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner with proper support
· Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and other internal reports
· Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial data
· Assist in coordinating and preparing year-end reporting requirements
· Assist with financial statement and compliance audits, including preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation
· Ensure financial data is accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
· Support preparation of required tax filings and governmental reporting (e.g., sales tax, business tax, and other regulatory filings
Accounting Operations Oversight
· Review and validate transactional activity (payroll, accounts payable, and cash) to ensure accuracy and completeness
· Partner with Finance team members to resolve discrepancies and ensure proper recording of financial activity
· Partner with Finance team to identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls
· Maintain and support accounting systems (e.g., MIP), ensuring data integrity and consistency
Collaboration & Team Support
· Collaborate closely Finance team to support overall financial operations and reporting
· Participate in team meetings, process discussions, and continuous improvement efforts
· Provide support on special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in a hands-on accounting role
- Strong fundamental knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience in general ledger reconciling, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Must be detail oriented, analytical, and highly organized
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to work under pressure and problem solve in a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity
- Must be proactive and solution oriented
- Able to complete tasks accurately and timely with minimal supervision.
