About the role
We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to join our Core Platform team at slice. This team builds the foundational systems and shared services that power multiple product lines across the company.
As a Backend Engineer, you’ll work on large-scale distributed systems and platform capabilities that solve cross-cutting engineering problems at scale - including authentication & authorization, communications infrastructure, rule engines, document systems, fraud tooling, and internal developer platforms.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy building reusable systems, solving scalability challenges, improving platform reliability, and enabling fast product development across teams. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Risk, Analytics, and Product teams to design systems that are scalable, resilient, and built for long-term evolution.

What you'll do
- Design and build foundational backend platforms and shared services that power multiple product lines across slice.
- Develop scalable, high-availability microservices for critical platform domains such as authentication & authorization, communications infrastructure, rule engines, document systems, fraud tooling, and internal developer utilities.
- Build reusable frameworks and abstractions that reduce duplication across engineering teams and accelerate product development.
- Drive platform scalability, reliability, and performance by solving distributed systems challenges at high throughput and low latency.
- Own systems end-to-end - from architecture and development to deployment, observability, incident resolution, and long-term maintainability.
- Work on event-driven and asynchronous architectures using technologies like Kafka, queues, and distributed caching systems.
- Collaborate closely with product engineering, risk, analytics, infra, and operations teams to build platform capabilities that enable rapid experimentation and scale.
- Improve developer experience by creating internal tools, APIs, and platform primitives that simplify engineering workflows.
- Contribute to platform evolution by identifying technical debt, improving system design, and driving modernization initiatives.
- Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and engineering decisions that shape the future of slice’s backend ecosystem.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of experience in backend or distributed systems engineering.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Golang, Python, or Java.
- Experience designing and building scalable backend systems and microservices.
- Good understanding of distributed systems concepts, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with databases and storage systems such as PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with cloud-native development and containerized environments on AWS/GCP/Azure.
- Experience with observability, logging, monitoring, and production debugging.
- Strong understanding of system design, scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.
- Ability to take ownership across the software development lifecycle from design to production operations.
- Curiosity to explore new technologies and build reusable engineering platforms with long-term impact.
- B.E/B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech/M.S. from a reputed university with a strong academic record.
