About the Role:
Statiq is looking for a product-minded SDE II who can take ownership of building and scaling reliable software products in a fast-paced environment. You’ll be responsible for taking features from problem understanding and technical design through development, testing, deployment, and production monitoring. This is a full-stack engineering role with strong emphasis on Python backend development, while also requiring hands-on contribution to React and TypeScript-based applications. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering teams to translate business and customer requirements into scalable technical solutions. The role also offers an opportunity to leverage AI-assisted development tools and LLM technologies to improve engineering productivity and build AI-powered capabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own product features end-to-end, from understanding the problem and defining the technical approach to development, testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, REST APIs, integrations, and database-driven applications using Python.
- Build reliable asynchronous services and APIs using FastAPI/Flask and modern Python engineering practices.
- Contribute to frontend development using React and TypeScript, enabling the team to deliver complete full-stack features.
- Design and implement systems with appropriate caching, queues, retries, idempotency, transactions, and failure-handling mechanisms.
- Work with MySQL, Redis, and MongoDB while ensuring efficient data modelling, query performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Participate in system architecture, technical planning, code reviews, and engineering discussions, making sound trade-offs between performance, scalability, reliability, and development speed.
- Build strong test coverage, observability, documentation, and deployment practices to ensure production readiness.
- Monitor production systems, troubleshoot incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes to improve system reliability.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering teams to translate customer and business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot for coding, codebase exploration, testing, debugging, refactoring, documentation, and engineering automation.
- Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Contribute to AI-powered product capabilities using LLM APIs, structured outputs, agents, or related technologies where applicable.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive engineering workflows and continuously improve development practices.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- 3–5 years of hands-on software development experience with ownership of production systems.
- Strong Python expertise with hands-on async Python experience.
- Experience building and owning production-grade REST APIs with relational databases at scale.
- Strong understanding of indexing, query plans, N+1 problems, transactions, and database optimization.
- Comfortable contributing to a React + TypeScript codebase; this is not a pure backend role.
- Strong system-design fundamentals including caching, queues, idempotency, retries, and failure handling.
- Strong debugging, testing, code-review, and production troubleshooting skills.
- Experience in a startup or product-led environment is preferred.
