Job Description - Scrum Master
Role Overview
The Scrum Master is responsible for enabling Agile ways of working across the team, ensuring the effective application of Scrum practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Acting as a servant leader and facilitator, the Scrum Master removes impediments, coaches team members, and supports the Product Owner in ensuring delivery of high value outcomes. The role requires strong communication, organizational and coaching skills to help teams operate efficiently, adapt to change, and continuously enhance their performance.
Principal Responsibilities
Scrum Facilitation
Lead and facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
Ensure events are time boxed, productive, and focused on clear outcomes.
Manage sprint artefacts such as the Sprint Backlog, Burndown Charts, and team metrics.
Team Coaching & Development
Coach team members on Agile principles, Scrum practices, and self organisation.
Support the development of high performing, cross functional teams.
Encourage collaboration, transparency, and accountability.
Impediment Removal
Proactively identify obstacles that hinder team progress and work with stakeholders to resolve them quickly.
Shield the team from external distractions and unnecessary pressures.
Stakeholder Engagement
Support the Product Owner with backlog refinement, prioritisation, and maintaining clarity of requirements.
Facilitate communication between the development team and external stakeholders.
Promote a shared understanding of product goals, scope, and priorities.
Continuous Improvement
Drive process improvements to increase team velocity, quality, and predictability.
Utilise metrics and feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
Advocate for Agile best practices across the organisation.
Delivery Support
Ensure work is delivered in line with agreed Definition of Done and quality standards.
Track team progress and proactively manage risks, dependencies, and delivery timelines.
Foster a culture focused on continuous delivery and customer value.
Essential
Qualifications and Experience
Proven experience (4 - 5 years) as a Scrum Master working with Agile/Scrum teams.
Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Lean).
Experience facilitating Scrum events and coaching teams in Agile principles.
Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to identify and remove impediments in a proactive and collaborative manner.
Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of trust, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Ability to act as the local Point of Contact /representative of the developer scrum team(s) on the ground
Desirable
Professional certifications such as CSM, PSM I/II.
Experience working in scaled Agile environments (e.g., SAFe, Nexus, LeSS).
Background in software delivery or technical environments.
Familiarity with Agile tooling (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello).
Experience supporting multiple Scrum teams simultaneously.
