Role Description The Scratch Mentor is a full-time remote role responsible for teaching block-based programming to children and teens using the Scratch platform. Day-to-day tasks include planning and delivering live online lessons, guiding learners through coding projects, explaining core concepts such as loops, events, and variables, and encouraging creativity and problem-solving. The mentor will monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adjust instruction to different ages and skill levels. Additional responsibilities include preparing learning materials, collaborating with the teaching team to improve curricula, maintaining clear communication with guardians when needed, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency with Scratch or similar block-based programming tools and ability to design age-appropriate projects.
- Experience teaching or mentoring children and teens in an online or classroom setting, with engaging classroom management skills.
- Clear, patient, and encouraging communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms.
- Comfort with remote work tools and online teaching platforms, including video conferencing and digital collaboration tools.
- Genuine interest in education, child development, and promoting logical reasoning and computational thinking.
- Ability to work full-time with a consistent schedule, demonstrate reliability, and collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in teaching coding to youth.
- Prior experience in curriculum development, STEM programs, or after-school coding clubs is a plus.
