About the role

JOB TITLE: Product Engineer

REPORTS TO: Product Manager

JOB SUMMARY: Design, develop, and refine mechanical systems and products to support Scout’s operational and customer requirements. This role integrates engineering design, field feedback, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver practical, manufacturable, and performance-driven solutions.


Responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Leading the design and development of mechanical systems, components, and products
  • Participating in research, testing, and gathering of data.
  • Overseeing and participating in the creation of 2D and 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and assembly drawings.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and deliverables
  • Conducting site visits to districts and field locations to assess performance, identify areas for improvement, and facilitate the exchange of best practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to support project execution, contribute to product design initiatives, and drive continuous improvement across operations.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in conducting or managing engineering projects

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing project needs in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and CAD software (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Familiarity with simulation and analysis software (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or similar) preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in producing accurate and concise manufacturing drawings
  • Valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

  • Long periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
  • Travel as needed to support operations across company facilities and field locations, including overnight travel across North America.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle for extended periods
  • Ability to walk around customer locations and company facilities
  • Must have the ability to bend, crouch, kneel, twist, push, and pull.
  • Normal vision, with the aid of corrective lenses or devices as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
