JOB TITLE: Product Engineer
REPORTS TO: Product Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Design, develop, and refine mechanical systems and products to support Scout’s operational and customer requirements. This role integrates engineering design, field feedback, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver practical, manufacturable, and performance-driven solutions.
Responsibilities are but not limited to:
- Leading the design and development of mechanical systems, components, and products
- Participating in research, testing, and gathering of data.
- Overseeing and participating in the creation of 2D and 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and assembly drawings.
- Providing technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues.
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Conducting site visits to districts and field locations to assess performance, identify areas for improvement, and facilitate the exchange of best practices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to support project execution, contribute to product design initiatives, and drive continuous improvement across operations.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in conducting or managing engineering projects
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing project needs in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in 3D modeling and CAD software (SolidWorks or similar)
- Familiarity with simulation and analysis software (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or similar) preferred but not required
- Demonstrated proficiency in producing accurate and concise manufacturing drawings
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
- Long periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
- Travel as needed to support operations across company facilities and field locations, including overnight travel across North America.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle for extended periods
- Ability to walk around customer locations and company facilities
- Must have the ability to bend, crouch, kneel, twist, push, and pull.
- Normal vision, with the aid of corrective lenses or devices as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
