About the role

We have opportunities in Central and Southern Scotland for graduates to contribute to the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission networks. With distribution networks originally designed for predictable and stable demand, it is now imperative that we upgrade our network to accommodate the extensive changes in electricity demand, generation, and consumer behaviour and you will be at the forefront of a transformative movement in the energy industry. You will contribute to the planning, design, implementation and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission networks. Working closely with experienced engineers and technicians, you will have the opportunity to learn from their expertise and gain valuable hands-on experience in the field. This will include tasks such as installing new substations, overhead lines, and underground cables. As you gain experience in the field, you will take on greater responsibilities and make critical decisions regarding the operation and maintenance of the electrical network. Collaborating with our engineers on innovative initiatives, you'll work towards minimising our carbon footprint and optimising energy efficiency. Your efforts in designing and maintaining infrastructure for clean energy generation will ensure sustainable electricity delivery to homes and businesses. Throughout your two-year IET-accredited programme, you'll engage in four to six placements, providing valuable exposure to projects across the entire lifecycle and allowing you to explore your interests while contributing to a smarter, more sustainable energy future.

About the company

ScottishPower keeps the electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Shropshire. One of only six Distribution Operators and one of three Transmission owners in the UK, our actions are crucial to the decarbonisation of the network. The energy landscape is changing fast as the way our customers and communities generate, consume, and interact with energy evolves. Our role is to decarbonise our network through technology and innovation and to support the UK's journey to Net Zero through electrification.
