Committed To Equal Opportunities
The Project
This SMART Partnership aims to develop a dynamic pricing technology platform for the self-storage industry. The project seeks to address the current lack of
transparency in self-storage pricing by analysing market data to understand the factors that influence storage costs. The
initiative will leverage a commercial database of self-storage pricing information and academic data analytics expertise to create a model capable of dynamically pricing diverse storage options based on real-time market data.
This innovation will bring greater transparency and efficiency to the industry, enabling suppliers to better understand competitive positioning and helping consumers find affordable storage solutions that meet their needs. The project represents a knowledge transfer opportunity between university research expertise and industry application, with potential to transform pricing practices across the self-storage sector in the UK.
Purpose of the Job
The post is part of a new team working in the area of data analytics and dynamic pricing systems. The project involves analysing self-storage market data to develop a dynamic pricing model that will bring greater transparency to the industry. The research outcomes will be a functional dynamic pricing algorithm that can be implemented by industry partner. The post holder will be responsible for planning and conducting data analysis, developing and testing pricing models, liaising with external industry partners and internal academic supervisors, and managing the overall project to ensure successful knowledge transfer and implementation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

- Technical Framework Development: Establish appropriate data frameworks and backend logic for the dynamic pricing system; design data collection and processing pipelines; implement efficient data structures to support the pricing algorithms; ensure scalability and robustness of the technical solution.
- Collaborative Model Development: Work closely with the research team to develop and test pricing models; iterate on model designs based on feedback from both academic and industry partners; validate models against real-world data; refine algorithms to improve accuracy and effectiveness.
- Project Communication and Reporting: Communicate regular project updates to the management committee; prepare and deliver presentations on progress and findings; create documentation of methodologies and results; write comprehensive final reports for grant funders detailing project outcomes and impact.
- Project Management: Track project progress against established milestones and deliverables; identify and address potential risks or issues; manage project timeline to ensure timely completion of all objectives; coordinate activities between university and industry partners.
- Knowledge Transfer: Work closely with the company's internal team to transfer knowledge and build capacity in data analytics; provide training and guidance on implementation of the dynamic pricing system; document processes and methodologies to support ongoing use of the system after project completion.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain effective communication with all project stakeholders; gather requirements and feedback from industry partners; translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences; build relationships to support successful project outcomes.
