Role Description The School Librarian is a full-time, on-site role located in Rupnagar, responsible for managing the school library and supporting the learning needs of students and staff. The role involves organizing, cataloging, and maintaining print and digital resources; overseeing circulation, acquisitions, and inventory; and ensuring the library environment is welcoming and conducive to study. The School Librarian will guide students and educators in locating and using information resources, deliver basic library instruction, and promote reading, research skills, and information literacy through displays, programs, and collaborations with teaching staff. The position also includes maintaining accurate records, updating metadata and classification systems, enforcing library policies, and using library management tools to support efficient operations.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Library Science and Library Services, with the ability to manage diverse collections and support users effectively.
- Experience with Library Management systems and processes, including cataloging, circulation, acquisitions, and inventory control.
- Knowledge of Metadata standards and classification schemes to organize and retrieve resources accurately.
- Ability to provide Library Instruction to students and staff, including guidance on research, information literacy, and responsible resource use.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field; advanced training or certification is an advantage.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a student-centered and service-oriented approach.
- Comfort with basic digital tools and educational technologies to support access to online resources.
- Prior experience in a school or academic library setting is preferred but not mandatory.
