To provide technical leadership in eye health and health system strengthening at organisational and programmatic level. To ensure that Sightsavers India’s thematic programme portfolio is aligned with organisational strategy, based on internal and external evidence and aligned with international good practice.
S/he will represent NGO's India in various forums and network with a wide range of stakeholders to promote and help achieve Sightsavers India’s vision.
1. Setting the strategic direction for the eye health and health system strengthening programme portfolio, ensuring that NGO India programmes are informed by best available evidence and good practice, and effectively designed, implemented, and evaluated.
2. Providing technical leadership and expertise in eye health and health system strengthening to guide the development and delivery of strategic programmes.
3. Facilitating the capacity strengthening of internal staff, partners and other teams in the design and implementation of eye health and health system strengthening programmes to meet organisational quality standards.
4. Working closely with other Global Technical Leads across the thematic areas to ensure thematic programme approaches are aligned.
5. Pioneering new strategic initiatives and innovative approaches in eye health and health system strengthening to improve and enhance the quality of work.
6. Contributing to the research, innovation, policy, advocacy communications and fundraising agendas through close collaboration with interdepartmental team and key external stakeholders and working with Global Policy and Advocacy and Communications team to ensure policy influencing is based on best available evidence and where possible, direct programme experience.
7. Undertaking senior level representation of Sightsavers India as an expert in eye health and health
system strengthening at national, regional and international professional and sector-specific
meetings.
8. Ensure to follow NGO India’s safeguarding principles and code of conduct.
Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
Medical doctor with post-graduate qualifications in ophthalmology .
Postgraduate degree(s) or similar qualification in public health or community eye health will be an advantage.
Considerable experience of developing eye health and health systems strengthening programmes.
Experience of working with national government and international institutions such as WHO and other International Development Organisations (INGDOs).
Knowledge of current issues and best practice in eye health and international development.
