who can translate a completed blueprint into a fully configured, tested, and production‑ready SAP TM solution. The consultant will play a key role in delivering a foundational SAP TM implementation for a large
CPG client, covering carrier tendering, freight settlement, dock scheduling, and end‑to‑end shipment execution.
Work Location & Hours
- Onshore / Offshore delivery model
- Required overlap with US Eastern Time: minimum 4–5 hours per day
Key Responsibilities
SAP TM Configuration & Design
- Configure SAP TM across all major functional areas, including:
- Freight Order Management
- Carrier Selection and Tendering (waterfall, broadcast, spot bid)
- Transportation Planning
- Shipment Execution and Monitoring
- Event Management and Tracking
- Configure freight settlement, including:
- Calculation sheets
- Multi‑dimensional rate tables (up to 14 dimensions)
- Charge calculation rules
- Invoice verification
- Dispute management workflows
- Set up carrier master data, including:
- Business partners with SCAC codes
- Equipment types
- Hazardous materials certifications
- Carrier‑specific attributes
- Freight agreement structures
- Design and configure transportation zones and lanes, mapping enterprise location networks into SAP TM’s zone/lane model for accurate rate determination
- Configure dock appointment scheduling, including time slot allocation and appointment management
Integrations & Collaboration
- Configure and validate integrations with:
- PC*MILER (FTL) and SMC3 (LTL) for distance and duration calculations
- BN4L (Business Network for Logistics) for carrier collaboration, including carrier onboarding, tendering workflows, and tracking events
- Activate and configure SAP Fiori apps and role‑based Transportation Cockpits for dispatcher, planner, and analyst personas
- Support ERP ↔ TM integration touchpoints such as:
- Sales order transportation demand creation
- Delivery‑to‑freight‑order linkage
- PGI triggers
- FI/CO postings from freight settlement
Documentation, Testing & Data Migration
- Produce Functional Specification Documents (FSDs) for required enhancements using BAdI and BRF+ frameworks (no custom Z‑programs)
- Execute unit testing and integration/string testing across all configured scenarios
- Support SIT and UAT, including:
- Test script preparation
- Defect analysis
- Issue resolution
- Assist with data migration, including mapping and validating carrier, lane, and rate master data into SAP TM root structures
Must‑Have Qualifications
Required Experience & Skills
- At least two full lifecycle SAP TM implementations as a functional consultant, including configuration, testing, and go‑live support
- Hands‑on configuration experience in at least three of the following areas:
- Carrier tendering
- Freight settlement (calculation sheets and rate tables)
- Transportation planning
- Dock scheduling
- Event management
- Strong experience configuring:
- Freight agreements
- Multi‑dimensional rate tables (lane, equipment, weight breaks, commodity, carrier)
- Fuel surcharge structures
- Master data expertise, including:
- Business partners
- Locations
- Transportation zones and lanes
- Vehicle and equipment types
- Transportation resources
- Proven ability to design and execute end‑to‑end SAP TM test scenarios, from order creation through delivery, tendering, execution, and settlement
- Experience authoring clear, detailed functional specifications for BAdI and BRF+ enhancements
- Confident leading process workshops and translating current‑state transportation operations into SAP TM solutions
Highly Preferred Experience
- Hands‑on experience with S/4HANA SAP TM (beyond ECC‑based LE‑TRA)
- BN4L configuration, including carrier portal setup and EDI message flows (204, 990, 214, 210)
- Industry experience in CPG, beverage, or food distribution, with exposure to:
- DSD delivery models
- Seasonal volume spikes
- Temperature‑controlled transportation
- High‑frequency delivery operations
- Experience migrating from third‑party TMS platforms (e.g., E2Open, MercuryGate, Oracle OTM, Blue Yonder) to SAP TM, with understanding of rate and master data remapping complexities
- SAP Event Management configuration for shipment visibility and exception alerts
- Multi‑organizational SAP TM configuration supporting varied business rules and carrier relationships on a shared platform
- Experience integrating visibility platforms such as FourKites or project44
- SAP Fiori launchpad customization and SAP TM standard app configuration
- SAP TM Certification (C_TM_95 or equivalent)
