SAP HR ABAP Developer SuccessFactors / Employee Central Payroll Migration Programme
Job Title: SAP HR ABAP Developer (SuccessFactors / ECP Payroll Migration)
Location: Pune, India (VE3 Pune office; hybrid)
Position Type: Full-time
Experience Level: 6-10 years
Working Pattern: Offshore delivery with overlap into UK business hours to align with the onshore team
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced SAP HR ABAP Developer to join our Pune delivery team supporting a large-scale SAP SuccessFactors transformation. The programme migrates a complex UK public sector payroll estate from legacy SAP ECC / SAP HCM into the SAP SuccessFactors landscape, covering approximately 65,000 employees across 17 payroll areas, multiple public sector pension schemes (LGPS, Teachers, NHS), a significant multiple-employment population, and more than 60 integration interfaces.
Working as part of an onshore-offshore delivery model, the developer will own the technical build and remediation activities that underpin the migration: assessing and rationalising legacy custom code, developing and enhancing HR/payroll objects, building data migration programs, and supporting the interface and replication layer between on-premise SAP and the SuccessFactors cloud. The role requires deep SAP HR-ABAP expertise combined with a solid working understanding of the UK payroll domain the programme serves, and close collaboration with onshore functional payroll, integration and data migration leads across all phases of delivery.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
•
Legacy code assessment and remediation. Analyse the existing SAP ECC / SAP HCM landscape, inventory custom Z-programmes, enhancements and modifications, and produce remediation recommendations aligned to the target-state SuccessFactors and ECP architecture.
•
HR-ABAP development. Design, build, test and document custom developments across the SAP HR and Payroll estate, including:
◦ Custom infotypes, dynamic actions and features
◦ Enhancements via BAdIs, user exits, customer exits and enhancement framework
◦ Reports using the PNP / PNPCE logical databases and HR macros
◦ Custom payroll functions, operations and rule support in coordination with functional payroll
◦ Interface programs and file handling for inbound and outbound payroll data
•
Data migration development. Build and execute data migration programs and conversion routines to move HR and payroll master data from S/4HANA / ECC into Employee Central and ECP, including transformation logic, validation, reconciliation reporting and support for iterative mock load cycles.
•
Integration support. Develop and support the technical layer behind the 60+ CPI interfaces (payroll and non-payroll), including replication between on-premise SAP and SuccessFactors, extract and transformation logic, error handling and monitoring.
•
Hybrid coexistence and replication. Support employee master data replication and hybrid ECC-SuccessFactors coexistence, including tooling such as Infoporter, ensuring HR and payroll data flows are aligned to the target-state design.
•
Statutory and reporting development. Build and support custom reporting and outputs required for UK statutory compliance and pension scheme returns (for example HMRC/RTI supporting extracts, BACS output handling, LGPS/Teachers/NHS fund return files), in coordination with the payroll functional team.
•
Testing and defect resolution. Prepare unit test evidence, support system integration testing, UAT and parallel payroll runs, and resolve development defects within agreed service levels through go-live and hypercare.
•
Documentation and handover. Produce technical specifications, code documentation and knowledge-transfer materials to the agreed quality standard, and support the client's SAP Centre of Excellence team in building in-house capability.
•
Onshore-offshore collaboration. Work closely with the onshore UK-based functional payroll, integration, data migration and security leads, maintaining a daily overlap with UK business hours, and support architecture assurance and code review forums throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Technical Skills & Experience
•
Strong hands-on SAP HR-ABAP development experience, including:
◦ HR-specific ABAP: PNP / PNPCE logical databases, HR macros, infotype programming, cluster tables (PCL1-PCL4) and payroll results structures
◦ Custom infotypes, dynamic actions, features and text handling
◦ Enhancement techniques: BAdIs, user exits, customer exits, enhancement framework, implicit enhancements
◦ Reporting: ALV, classical and interactive reporting over HR/payroll data
◦ Interfaces: IDocs, proxies, file interfaces, and integration with middleware
◦ Data migration tooling: LSMW, BDC, BAPIs and custom load programs
•
Core ABAP: strong foundations in Object-Oriented ABAP, ABAP Dictionary, performance tuning, and debugging complex payroll-related developments.
•
SAP HR / Payroll module understanding: solid functional awareness of Personnel Administration (PA), Organisational Management (OM), Payroll (PY) and Time Management (PT), sufficient to build and troubleshoot against payroll schemas, PCRs and wage type configuration in partnership with functional consultants.
•
UK payroll domain understanding: working knowledge of the UK payroll statutory landscape the programme serves, including HMRC/RTI, PAYE, National Insurance, pension auto-enrolment and BACS, and how these are supported technically. Prior exposure to UK payroll from an offshore delivery role is highly valued.
•
Integration awareness: familiarity with SAP Cloud Integration (CPI) / SAP Integration Suite and integration patterns between SAP on-premise and SuccessFactors.
•
Migration and cutover: experience of data migration strategy, mock load cycles, reconciliation, and supporting parallel payroll runs, cutover and hypercare.
•
Delivery methods: familiarity with SAP Activate methodology and both agile and waterfall delivery models, and with enterprise governance and code review processes.
Essential Experience:
• SAP HR-ABAP development on SAP ECC / SAP HCM payroll landscapes
• Custom development against HR infotypes, payroll clusters and the PNP/PNPCE logical databases
• Enhancements using BAdIs, user exits and the enhancement framework
• Data migration and conversion program development for HR/payroll data
• Interface development for payroll and HR data, inbound and outbound
• Support of UK payroll and statutory reporting requirements
• Working within large, complex, multi-workstream transformation programmes
Desirable Experience
• SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (ECP) development or support
• Employee Central to ECP replication and hybrid ECC-SuccessFactors coexistence (for example Infoporter)
• SAP Cloud Integration (CPI) / Integration Suite development
• UK public sector or local authority payroll, including LGPS, Teachers or NHS pension schemes
• Multiple-employment / concurrent employment handling in SAP payroll
• Payroll Control Centre and related tooling
• SAP Fiori / UI5 exposure for HR self-service scenarios
Certifications
• Desirable: SAP certification in ABAP or SAP HCM.
Soft Skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in debugging complex payroll logic
• Clear technical communication and documentation discipline
• Ability to work effectively with functional, integration and data teams
• Attention to detail and a quality-first mindset, appropriate to payroll accuracy
• Proactive approach to risk and issue identification
• Ability to manage priorities within a large transformation programme
