Position: Senior ABAP Consultant / Lead ABAP Consultant
Job Type: Contract
Work Location: Chennai
Relevant years of Experience for Senior ABAP Consultant: 4 to 7 Years
Relevant years of Experience for Lead ABAP Consultant: 7 to 10 years
JD for Senior ABAP Consultant:
Salary Range: Max 25L PA
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- SAP ABAP certification is preferred
Required Experience
- 4–7 years of SAP development experience with a focus on ABAP programming
- Experience with SAP ECC or S/4HANA environments
Essential skills
- Strong proficiency in ABAP (Reports, BAPIs, BADIs, BDCs, SmartForms, ALV, IDOCs, etc.)
- Knowledge of enhancement frameworks, user exits, and debugging tools
- Familiarity with module integration (FI, MM, SD, PP, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Skilled in object-oriented programming with experience in building scalable and maintainable solutions
Desired skills
- Exposure to ABAP on HANA and CDS views
- Experience with SAP Fiori/UI5 developments
- Understanding of Agile project methodologies
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivery and Execution
- Develop custom ABAP programs and enhancements based on functional specifications
- Perform code reviews, unit testing, and transport management
- Support SAP upgrades, patches, and performance tuning
JD for Lead ABAP Consultant:
Salary Range: Max 28L PA
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- Certifications in SAP ABAP or related SAP modules are advantageous
Required Experience
- 7- 10 years of experience in SAP ABAP development and application engineering
- At least 2+ years in a technical mentoring role, overseeing end-to-end development cycles, and managing code quality and delivery timelines
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and delivering scalable ABAP solutions aligned with business needs
- Hands-on experience in developing and optimizing complex ABAP programs, reports, enhancements (User Exits, BADIs), BAPIs, IDOCs and interfaces
Essential skills
- Advanced proficiency in SAP ABAP programming and debugging
- Ability to evaluate and recommend application upgrades, patches, and new features
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve high-impact and complex issues
- Proficiency in developing detailed technical design documents from business requirements or user stories
- Expertise in conducting functionality gap analyses and feasibility studies
- Skilled in test plan creation and execution across functional, performance, regression, and UAT phases
Desired skills
- Knowledge of S/4HANA and associated technologies
- Experience with cross-functional collaboration in large enterprise environments
- Understanding of SAP security protocols and compliance standards
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivery and Execution
- Design, develop, and troubleshoot advanced SAP ABAP programs and custom applications
- Lead the creation of in-depth technical specifications and ensure alignment with business requirements
- Consult with functional architects to design and implement new application solutions
- Drive the development of comprehensive test plans and support testing phases to ensure robust solution delivery
- Perform complex analyses to ensure applications comply with security and audit protocols
