Job Title: Children’s Enrichment Center (CEC) Instructional Assistant

PART-TIME, SEASONAL

Hours: May 18-22, 2026: Monday-Friday 8 am-4pm

 May 26-August 14, 2026: Tuesdays and Thursdays 8am-4pm

Location: SAMMinistries’ Transitional Living and Learning Center 

Reports To: Director of Early Childhood Education 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY: This Instructional Assistant will provide care and supervision of children ages 5-12 in the SAMMinistries’ Children’s Enrichment Center’s School Age Youth program. The Instructional Assistant will implement daily activities and lesson plans, prepare materials for these, and is responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment. The Instructional Assistant works closely with the Education Intervention Program Specialist, teaching staff, and leadership to support children’s educational, developmental, and social-emotional growth. This position requires the ability to build positive relationships with children and respond to challenging behaviors using supportive, trauma-informed approaches. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Supervise children at all times, ensuring safety during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and transitions. 
  • Assist with implementing planned indoor and outdoor activities under the guidance of lead staff.
  • Support a safe, structured, and engaging environment using positive, trauma-informed approaches and role modeling. 
  • Assist with meal and snack times, including supervision and support for children as needed.
  • Provide additional support during field trips, summer programming, and special events.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with children and support their social and emotional development. 
  • Communicate appropriately with parents and staff, helping to encourage family engagement in the program. 
  • Work collaboratively with staff and leadership to support daily operations and respond to program needs. 
  • Report any concerns related to child safety, including suspected abuse or neglect, in accordance with state law and organizational policy.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality to support daily operations.
  • Additional duties as assigned. 


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

 

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • Familiarity with classroom management skills.  
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred but not required.
  • One year of experience working with school-age children is preferred but not required.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

 

Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License, a good driving record and proper insurance coverage. Monthly mileage reimbursed for applicable and documented work-related mileage. Some travel may be required. 


OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

 

  • Must have excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification. 
  • Submit to criminal background check and drug screening prior to hiring. 
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice (cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and language development)

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The work environment is primarily indoors, but each teacher will supervise children outdoors during play and activities. During school breaks and summer, the work environment can include off-site locations during field trips such as the zoo, aquarium, city parks, etc. Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals. Requires handling of objects 10- 20 pounds, and occasionally lifting objects that may be up to 40 pounds. Also requires standing and walking.
