Sales Development Representative (SDR) — Inbound Marketing
About The Company
We help early-stage founders hire the top 1% engineers from India. We work with startups and scaling companies across the US, UK, and India who need exceptional engineering talent — fast, pre-vetted, and ready to hit the ground running. Our clients are founders and CTOs building ambitious products, and they trust Uplers to deliver engineers who can genuinely move the needle.
What This Person Will Do
This SDR sits within the Marketing Inbound team and owns two core responsibilities:
- Client Calls & Qualification: Take discovery calls with inbound leads (mostly founders and hiring managers), understand their hiring needs, assess fitment, negotiate on expectations, and qualify them before handing off to the delivery team with detailed context. This requires strong client communication, negotiation skills, and prior experience handling B2B client conversations.
- Lead Generation: Generate new leads independently by re-engaging past/dormant leads and running outbound prospecting through LinkedIn. This person owns their own pipeline — they don''''t just wait for leads to come in.
MUST-HAVE (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
- Startup background: Must have worked at a startup or small company. Needs to be scrappy, resourceful, and comfortable figuring things out without a playbook.
- Real client-facing experience in B2B: Must have directly spoken to clients, founders, or CXOs — not just generated lists or sent cold emails. Needs the maturity and business acumen to hold conversations with decision-makers, negotiate, and qualify.
- Active AI user: Must already be using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, AI prospecting tools) in their daily sales workflow — for research, email drafting, call prep, or lead scoring. Not curiosity — actual integration into how they work.
Preferred
- Proven track record with measurable outcomes — pipeline generated, conversion rates, targets hit
- Good communication accent — neutral/clear, easy for UK/US/Australian clients to understand
- Experience with HubSpot CRM and LinkedIn Sales Navigator
- Prior exposure to selling services (talent solutions, staffing, IT outsourcing, or agency)
- Familiarity with outbound tools like Apollo, Lusha, or Hunter.io
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Not an entry-level lead gen person. Someone with the maturity to sit across founders and CXOs, ask the right questions, and represent Uplers with confidence. They''''ve worked at a B2B startup, owned their numbers, and know the difference between just sending emails and actually closing a qualified handoff. They use AI daily because it makes them faster, not because it''''s trendy.
RECRUITER SOURCING NOTES
- Startup filter: No large-enterprise or traditional-corporate candidates. Startups or companies under 200 people only.
- Communication screen: Phone screen before submitting. Assess fluency, confidence, and accent. If hesitant or unclear — pass.
- AI check: Ask which AI tools they use and how. No vague answers. They should name specific tools and workflows.
- Client experience check: Ask them to describe a real client call — who, what, outcome. If they can''''t, pass.
- Shift confirmation: Confirm UK shift (3 PM – 12 AM IST) willingness upfront.
- Volume: Single hire. Submit 5–7 strong profiles, not a dump.
