About Spike
Spike is an incident response and on-call management platform. When something breaks in production at 2am, we're the system that figures out who to wake up, alerts them, escalates if nobody responds, and tracks everything that happens during the incident.
We're bootstrapped and profitable, funded entirely by our customers. Our customers are engineering, ops and reliability teams in 35 countries — Silicon Valley, India, Europe, South Africa, Brazil, Chile, Singapore, Australia, Japan.
What this job actually is
This is our first sales hire, so we are pretty stoked about it. You'll do inbound, some outbound, demos, trial follow-up, and you will work with the team to build the sales process as you go. There's no sales team to slot into and no wall between roles. If it touches a prospect, it's yours.
But the centre of the job is inbound, and that's deliberate. People find Spike through search and content, sign up, and start a trial. Some of them are serious buyers. Some are stuck and some are just looking. Right now the founder emails each one of them and sometimes we keep missing these emails as well. They're the warmest leads we have, and they're sitting untouched. That's where you'd start, and that's where you'd have an effect in week one.
Outbound is part of the surface area and it will grow. It isn't the anchor yet, because we haven't proven it ourselves and we're not going to hand you an unproven channel and call it your problem.
The role in one line
Every person who signs up for Spike gets a human who helps them succeed.
What you'll own
• Reach out to every new signup within 2-4 hours.
• Get trial users to their first working escalation policy. That's the moment Spike clicks.
• Qualify. Who's evaluating seriously, who's kicking tyres, who's stuck and needs help.
• Book qualified meetings on our Sales calendar.
• Outbound to teams that look like our best customers, once we've found the message together.
• Report back the friction you keep seeing. It feeds our docs, our videos, and the product itself.
What you need to bring
• 1–3 years in SaaS inbound sales, onboarding, or technical support with a sales edge.
• Excellent written and excellent spoken English. Most of this job is email and chat with a global audience.
• Comfortable on calls across timezones.
• Genuine curiosity about how software works. You should want to understand what on-call and incident response actually mean, because you'll be talking to engineers and CTOs who can tell instantly whether you do.
• Self-direction. There's no sales manager here and no playbook yet. You'll help write it.
• Comfort in a company this small, where the CEO sits next to you.
Nice to have
Exposure to developer tools or DevOps. Experience with a CRM. Any support background.
What we're not asking for
An MBA. Five-plus years. A big-logo CV. We're looking for someone climbing.
What you get
• Real ownership of the funnel, not a slice of someone else's.
• A profitable bootstrapped company with customers in 35 countries.
• The chance to build the motion rather than inherit it.
Being honest about it
We are fewer than ten people today. That's the whole company — engineering, support, sales, marketing, all of it. You'd be the first person doing this job here.
There is limited process waiting for you. Some sequences, some templates and just the founder today checking what's happening. Some people find that liberating and some find it exposing. Worth knowing which one you are before you apply.
Location
Remote for now. We're planning an office in Bangalore — to stay closer to our customers in India, and because we want the team working together in the same room. So: remote today, not remote forever.
