Job Position: Safety Officer / Safety In-Charge
Location: Sarigam, Near Vapi, Gujarat
Industry: Chemical Manufacturing
Job Purpose
To ensure a safe working environment by implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving safety systems, statutory compliance, and risk control measures across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Management & Implementation
· Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, procedures, and SOPs.
· Ensure compliance with plant safety standards and safe work practices.
· Promote a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
2. Statutory Compliance
· Ensure compliance with applicable laws such as the Factories Act, the Gujarat Factory Rules, and the Pollution
Control norms.
· Liaise with government authorities (Factory Inspector, GPCB, etc.).
· Maintain all statutory records, registers, and documentation.
3. Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
· Conduct HAZOP, risk assessments, and job safety analysis (JSA).
· Identify unsafe conditions/practices and implement corrective actions.
· Monitor critical safety parameters in chemical processes.
4. Incident Investigation
· Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe acts.
· Conduct root cause analysis and recommend preventive measures.
· Maintain incident reports and track closure of action items.
5. Training & Awareness
· Conduct safety induction and regular training programs for employees and contractors.
· Organize mock drills (fire, chemical spill, emergency evacuation).
· Ensure proper use of PPE and safety equipment.
6. Emergency Preparedness
· Develop and maintain on-site emergency plans.
· Coordinate emergency response teams.
· Ensure readiness of firefighting systems, safety equipment, and first-aid facilities.
7. Safety Audits & Inspections
· Conduct internal safety audits and inspections.
· Coordinate external audits and ensure compliance closure.
· Monitor safety KPIs and continuously improve performance.
8. Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)
· Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous waste.
· Monitor environmental parameters (air, water, effluents).
· Support sustainability and environmental initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
· Education: Degree/Diploma in Engineering (Chemical/Mechanical preferred), BSc/MSc Chemistry will also be
considered.
· Certification: Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (mandatory/preferred as per statutory
requirements)
· Experience: 5–10 years in chemical manufacturing safety roles
Skills & Competencies
· Strong knowledge of industrial safety standards and regulations
· Experience with HAZOP, risk assessments, and incident investigation
· Familiarity with firefighting systems and emergency response
· Good communication and training skills
· Strong observation and analytical abilities
· Leadership and influencing skills
Preferred Attributes
· Experience in chemical plants (dyes, intermediates, solvents, specialty chemicals)
· Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001)
· Exposure to audits by regulatory authorities
· Ability to handle a crisis effectively
· Exposure to working in a GMP/FDA environment will be beneficial.
