Position Title: Safety Officer / Safety Engineer
Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Reports To: HSE Head / Project Manager
Location: Project Site(s)
Role Summary
The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing safety standards across Solar, BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), Battery, EMS, and associated construction activities. The role ensures compliance with statutory regulations, promotes a strong safety culture, conducts safety audits/inspections, and supports risk mitigation throughout all project phases. The Safety Officer works closely with the project execution team, contractors, and OEM partners to achieve zero-incident operations.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Planning & Implementation
-Develop and implement site-specific HSE Plans, Emergency Response Plans, and Safe Work Procedures.
-Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) for high-risk activities.
-Ensure compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, statutory regulations, and client HSE requirements.
-Prepare JSA/JHA for daily activities and verify Permit-to-Work (PTW) compliance.
Site Safety Management – Solar & BESS Projects
-Monitor safe execution of civil, electrical, mechanical, battery-handling, and BESS installation works.
-Ensure safe practices during MMS erection, module installation, cable laying, inverter/transformer installation, and trench works.
-Oversee safety protocols for battery rooms, enclosures, PCS units, HVAC systems, and fire suppression equipment.
-Monitor confined spaces, working at heights, lifting operations, and hot work activities.
Safety Training & Awareness
-Conduct safety induction for new workers, visitors, and subcontractors.
-Organize toolbox talks, refresher training, and safety awareness programs.
-Train teams on emergency response, fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
Safety Inspections & Audits
-Perform routine site safety inspections, housekeeping checks, equipment checks, and PPE compliance monitoring.
-Carry out internal HSE audits and support external/client audits.
-Ensure fire extinguishers, alarms, spill kits, and emergency equipment are maintained and functional.
-Maintain updated inspection records, safety logs, and audit reports.
Incident Management
-Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions/acts.
-Prepare incident reports, root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective/preventive action plans (CAPA).
-Track closure of CAPA and report trends to the Project Manager and HSE Head.
Contractor & Workforce Safety
-Ensure contractor compliance with HSE standards, method statements, and risk mitigation measures.
-Verify contractor HSE documentation, competency certificates, and training records.
-Monitor compliance with labour safety regulations and statutory requirements.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Educational Qualification
-Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
-Safety Certification mandatory (NEBOSH IGC/IOSH/Safety Diploma).
Experience
-5–15 years of HSE experience in Solar/BESS/Industrial/EPC projects.
-Experience in battery/BESS safety and electrical safety preferred.
Technical Skills
-Strong knowledge of HIRA, JSA, PTW, Fire Safety, and Electrical Safety.
-Familiarity with BESS fire suppression, HVAC, and battery room safety norms.
-Knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, NFPA standards, and statutory compliance.
Behavioural Skills
