COMPENSATION: $55,399-87,027.75 per year pending verification of education and experience.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student-centered pedagogy. Our community is committed to cultivating each student’s unique abilities and passions, and to facilitating opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the District of San Francisco and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of the Province of the West.

Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Choral Music, in collaboration with the Director of Choral Music, has responsibility for teaching, directing, coordination and supervision of the choral music program within the curricular and cocurricular life of the school. "This person is responsible for teaching classes, accompanying rehearsals, vocal coaching, and directing choirs as well as assisting in producing at least one concert cycle per semester for the school community." The Assistant Director will serve as accompanist as needed and will handle major organizational and administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the program.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

Models for students the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian educator;

Supports and advances SHC’s mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes;

Serves as a collaborative pianist for Concert Choir and Chamber Ensemble

Directs Women’s Ensemble
-
Assists with all aspects of concert preparation, logistics, and execution throughout the year productions;

Coaches students individually and in small groups to foster vocal development and confidence

Supports Music Ministry, including all liturgical planning, programs, liturgies/Masses and Lessons & Carols

Assists with planning and executing choral tours and related travel arrangements

Manages attire fittings and maintaining inventory to support performance readiness

Helps to sustain and grow enrollment and participation in choral classes and productions.

Encourages and facilitates student leadership and involvement in co-curricular choral projects

Works cooperatively and collaboratively with other personnel and community members

As a teacher:

Plans what students will learn, how they will learn, and how they will be assessed from an inquiry- and standards-based perspective;

Provides effective unit / lesson plans and classes within a block schedule;

Supports an active, engaging academic learning experience for all students;

Provides regular and varied assessments of student learning to compile appropriate grades and properly determine what and how all students are learning;

Keeps current and complete electronic grading and attendance records;

Works with the Academic Resource Specialist and/or counselors to accommodate students who have learning differences or who fall behind in work;

Maintains an interactive and timely learning environment, in both physical and virtual learning spaces (e.g., Schoology);

In collaboration with other members of the Visual & Performing Arts Department, works toward the department goals:

Communicates effectively with students, parents, and school personnel;

Collaborates in the school’s cocurricular activities, service learning, and retreat programs;

Provides exemplary personal and professional presence throughout the San Francisco and greater Bay Area community and actively promotes SHC’s mission, philosophy, and brand among all current and future stakeholders.

Be an active, visible presence in the community to establish positive relationships that inspire others to engage in the faith life of the community.

Required to attend up to four (4) school functions outside of the regular school day, not to exceed four (4) hours each. Attendance is required at Back-to-School Night, Open House, and the Baccalaureate Mass; the fourth event options will be designated and announced at the start of each school year;

Participate in up to seven (7) supervisory assignments outside the school day per year, options include overnight activities; assignments may be adjusted based on type of activity and student course load and are not required during school vacations or holidays.;

Serve as a substitute for an absent teacher up to six (6) class periods per school year, prorated based on FTE. Substitution beyond six (6) class periods will be compensated at the current per-class substitution rate.
Required Qualifications & Skills

Undergraduate degree in Vocal/Choral Music/Music Education or its equivalent;

Experience teaching/directing singing productions (chorus, musical theater, etc.);

Strong listening skills and musical knowledge;
-
Experience working with students;
-
Organized and detail-oriented;
Desired Qualifications
-
Master’s Collaborative Piano or Choral Music Education
-
Experience as a choir director and/or previous experience working in a high school music program;
-
Collaborative piano experience and skill;
-
Experience in a Catholic school setting;
-
Experience as a classroom teacher.
