Job Requirements Summary
The Investment Banking research analyst in Oil & Gas will be responsible for providing analytical and execution support for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and capital raising transactions in the energy sector. Working closely with senior bankers of US I-banks, the role involves financial modeling, due diligence coordination, and preparation of client materials. The position requires deep understanding of the oil and gas industry dynamics, including upstream, midstream, and downstream operations.
- Develop complex financial models including DCF, LBO, merger consequences, and accretion/dilution analyses
- Prepare detailed company and industry analysis, including commodity price forecasts and operational metrics
- Support deal execution through due diligence coordination, management presentations, and transaction documentation
- Create comprehensive pitch books and client presentations for potential M&A opportunities
- Conduct market research and stay current with industry trends, including ESG considerations and energy transition impacts
- Collaborate with technical teams to evaluate asset valuations and operational synergies
- Analyze and model production profiles, reserve reports, and decline curves for upstream assets
- Assess carbon footprint and environmental liabilities in transaction valuations
- Model commodity price scenarios and their impact on asset valuations across the value chain
- Analyze regulatory requirements and compliance costs for oil and gas operations
- Evaluate oil field services contracts and operational efficiency metrics
Position Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of technical financial skills, industry knowledge, and proven deal execution experience. They should demonstrate excellent analytical capabilities and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, CA, CFA or related field with minimum 3.5 GPA
- 3+ years of Investment Banking experience, specifically in oil and gas or energy sector
- Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, PowerPoint, and Capital IQ
- Strong understanding of upstream, midstream, and downstream operations and economics
- Demonstrated track record of successful deal execution in energy sector M&A
- Superior analytical and quantitative skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to work extended hours when required and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong knowledge of energy markets, commodity pricing, and industry regulations
