About The Role
Hyqoo is seeking a skilled Ruby Backend Developer specializing in Distributed Systems to join our dynamic team remotely from India. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex, large-scale backend systems primarily built in Ruby on Rails. The role involves re-designing, modernizing, and scaling distributed backend components to support multi-tenancy and horizontal scalability, ensuring high performance and reliability. As part of our team, you will collaborate closely with platform and architecture teams, contributing to both legacy system modernization and cloud-native deployment strategies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, ownership mentality, and the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional environment, primarily supporting our operations aligned with the USA time zone (9 AM to 4 PM PST).
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. They will have at least 5 years of professional backend development experience, with a strong emphasis on Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Deep expertise in ActiveRecord, including query optimization and data modeling at scale, is essential. Proven experience working on large-scale distributed systems beyond traditional CRUD applications is required. The candidate should have hands-on experience with background job processors such as Sidekiq, and familiarity with messaging platforms like Kafka or equivalent. Experience in modernizing legacy codebases incrementally without affecting production stability, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, is vital. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams are also essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Redesign, modify, and scale distributed backend systems primarily built in Ruby on Rails to support horizontal scalability and SaaS multi-tenancy.
- Re-write and modernize legacy Ruby components to enhance performance, reliability, and maintainability over the long term.
- Design, implement, and optimize policy computation, policy distribution, and workload segmentation at a massive scale.
- Build and improve asynchronous job processing, batch processing, and parallel execution pipelines using Sidekiq.
- Actively profile and optimize system performance utilizing tools such as stackprof, ruby-prof, and memory profiler.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, memory issues, and blocking components in production systems through profiling, refactoring, and architectural enhancements.
- Enhance messaging and caching pipelines utilizing Kafka (or equivalent) and Redis or Firefly.
- Collaborate with platform and architecture teams during the transition of parts of the system to Java, while maintaining and evolving the Ruby core.
- Debug and resolve complex production issues independently, owning problems from diagnosis through resolution.
- Contribute to cloud-native deployments and infrastructure workflows, working alongside DevOps teams utilizing Kubernetes.
- Take ownership of system health, performance, and scalability, proactively identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
