Role Purpose
Drive the modernization and transformation of legacy RPG-based systems into
scalable, secure, and future-ready technology solutions. The role focuses on defining
modernization strategies, enabling digital transformation, and ensuring alignment
with enterprise architecture and business goals
Requirements
- 10+ years RPG Development / ILE experience
- 7+ years as an Architect into RPG/RPGLE/CLLE and IBMi (AS/400) systems
- Proven experience in legacy modernization / transformation programs
- Experience with API enablement, microservices, and cloud integration.
- Exposure to modern languages and integration frameworks (Java, .NET, etc.)
- Experience with database modernization and migration strategies (DB2, SQL).
Duties and Responsibilities

Internal Collaboration:
- Effective and consistent service delivery, teamwork, communication and customer
satisfaction.
Quality Assurance - Technical Solution
- Follow standards and best practices of IT team.
- Maintain a high quality standard in the work being delivered, maintainability of
code, quality of design and elegance of solution, compliance to system design and
architecture.
Modernization Strategy & Architecture
- Define and drive the modernization roadmap for RPG-based legacy applications.
- Evaluate and recommend modernization approaches (rehost, refactor,
replatform, rebuild).
- Design target architecture aligned with enterprise and cloud strategies.
- Identify opportunities to improve scalability, maintainability, and performance.
Technical Leadership
- Act as the subject matter expert for RPG and legacy system transformation.
- Provide architectural guidance on decoupling monolithic systems.
- Lead design of API-first and service-oriented architectures.
- Mentor development teams on modernization tools, frameworks, and best
practices.
Solution Design & Implementation
- Oversee conversion of RPG applications into modern platforms or services.
- Enable integration with modern ecosystems (web, mobile, third-party APIs).
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, security, and compliance requirements.
- Drive automation in testing, deployment, and monitoring.
Quality Assurance & Governance
- Establish standards for code quality, performance, and maintainability.
- Ensure robust testing strategies (unit, integration, regression) in modernization
initiatives.
- Maintain governance over architecture decisions and technical debt reduction.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with business stakeholders to align modernization with business
priorities.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, data, and security.
Risk & Impact Management
- Identify risks associated with legacy transformation and define mitigation
strategies.
- Ensure minimal disruption during migration and transformation initiatives.
- Manage dependencies across systems, integrations, and business processes.
Risk / Opportunity identification related to Expenses and Revenue/ Innovate:
- Identify financial and business risks to the company and escalate accordingly,
minimise the company's loss by controlling excessive wastage, contain costs within
budget parameters, suggestions increased productivity/SDLC/Quality, suggested
improvements/Provided solutions; not just technical, come forth with ideas on
how to marry business and technical.
Performance And Development
- Manage own performance and development.
